December 2018 thus far has proven to be the month that keeps on giving. From the incredible movie releases we have seen this month, to the Netflix moves in Africa, to outstanding returns at the box office, and now finally to – the answer to many of our prayers – a publicly available, credible, and all encompassing box office reporting system.
We’re going to end the year with 3 new 200m+ grossers from nollywood. If this trend continues we’re going to have to reclassify blockbuster from N100m to N200m. Congrats to all the filmmakers. Bring on 2019

For years before now, many have sought a credible publicly available box office reporting system. This is especially important in times of seeking funding from outside sources for our movies. Prior to this, the only reporting available to us were those made available by the individual production houses for their respective movies – no guesses as to why this wasn’t preferred.
This December, however, the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN), in partnership with COMSCORE – an international media measurement and analytics company, have created a website for this exact purpose.
The website – CEA Nigeria – contains details and rankings of movies at the box office (Nigerian and International releases), weeks of release, gross earning, earnings that week, amount of tickets sold and neat stats like percent changes among other things.
