-Story: [3 out of 5] To describe it in simple words, I’d say: this movie was a welcome change in more ways than one. The story was different and interesting and it’s use of actors was most definitely welcome. And as further proof of its awesomeness, this is one of the very very very very few Nigerian and African movies that pass the Bechdel test
-Originality: [4 out of 5] In the beginning, I was definitely getting a “Mercy Johnson in ‘The Maid'” vibe from this movie (you know… the one where she goes to live with couple, Eucharia Anunobi and Clems Ohameze, and their two christian children and she somehow manages to convert them to witches) but that flew out of the air really quickly.
-Predictability: [2 out of 5] The predictability is very subjective really.
-Directing/Editing: [2 out of 5] First of all, I’d like to commend the writers for making a 4 part movie that was not for once boring. There was no point in this movie where I was counting down how many parts till it’s end (…and that is an accomplishment, especially for a Nigerian movie). However, this movie could have been cut down to two parts because each part after the first contained half of the scenes from the previous part (take for instance part 2. The first 20 minutes of part 2 are the same as the last 20 minutes of part 1). What do you call that? Fraud! Another problem I had is with… I don’t know if it’s directing or editing now but all I know is that someone should have corrected Tonto Dikeh whilst she was busy murdering the English language with her:
“Ok, Children! I recommend your hard work” as opposed to ‘I commend your hard work’
and her…
“…you all have internal life” as opposed to ‘eternal life’
Add these to the couple of overly prolonged scenes and the directing fell a few inches off perfection.
-Acting quality: [2 out of 5] A round of applause for Oge Okoye, Muna Obiekwe and Halima Abubakar. Actually, mainly for Oge and Muna. For the first time since….. since FOREVER! These two have decided to step out of useless roles and for once act a movie that would redeem their image. I was literally shocked (and this was probably the reason why I watched this movie) when I realized that Oge would not be playing her usual slutty role in this movie and that Muna would not be a pimp in this movie. The stand out performance for me would have to have been Halima Abubakar though. I commend Oge, she was good, but Halima’s role involved more work. It would have been Tonto if she wasn’t steady murdering the English Language. Fredrick Leonard did a good job for someone whose name I had never noticed before. And Ejine Okoroafor needs to find a new profession. Some extras were ok and the rest were manageable. None were excellent and none were terrible.
-Setting: [3 out of 5] I actually loved all of the sets in this movie, you could tell that somebody somewhere, put in work!
-Costume/Make-Up: [2 out of 5] Uche Nancy did what Uche Nancy does best. No tacky clothings except Ejine! All I have to say is that if your nkiru (aka boobs) are that huge then maybe… just maybe… you shouldn’t wear tops that are that tight.
-Props and Graphics: [1 out of 5] Ehe! Asides from all the magic stunts Tonto Dikeh was pulling in this movie, Halima was on the side too steady pulling her own minor tricks. Tell me how, it is humanly possible that Halima Abubakar would be standing behind a wide office desk (that has some PULLED OUT chairs in front of it) and still be able to reach her secretary (whom need I mention was standing about a feet or two from said pulled out chairs which on their own are about 3 feet wide) to slap her. That is a distance of give or take 7 ft including table chair space and secretary! Haba! Na so Halima hand long reach? Graphics for juju were like graphics for juju in Nollywood usually are… folks steady disappearing from scene to scene.
-Video Quality: [3 out of 5] On point
-Audio Quality [2 out of 5] Occasional changes in timbre
-Soundtrack: [2 out of 5] Mildly told the story and could use some work
-Musical Score: [3 out of 5] Nicely done
