Now that the year 2018 is over, let’s talk numbers! There were many shakers this year and at many points nollywood movie after nollywood movie topped the list of highest grossing movies at the cinemas – beating out international contenders as well.
Here are the five that did a step above the rest.
#5. Moms At War – N65,000,000
Omoni Oboli’s comedy about two mothers who live in the same neighborhood, but hate each other released on the 17th of August, 2018 to impressive numbers. Last we heard, the movie had made N65 million at the box office.
#4. The Ghost And The Tout – N80,000,000
The Toyin Aimakhu production and starrer, about a young lady from the ghetto who meets a tout who proceeds to disorganize her life, released in May 2018. Last we heard, the movie made a grand total of 80 million naira at the box office.
#3. King of Boys – N217,712,153
Kemi Adetiba broke the internet and the box office in October, 2018 when she released her blockbuster thriller, “King of Boys” after much anticipation. The movie which tells the story of an underground boss, played by Sola Sobowale, with political aspirations made more than N210 million at the box office as of the last day of 2018.
#2. Chief Daddy – N225,711,944
In usual EbonyLife Films style, they released their much talked about comedy flick Chief Daddy in December to a great reception. After less than a month at the theatres, as of the last day of 2018, the movie had made upwards of N225 million.
#1. Merry Men – N230,000,000
And in usual AY fashion, he steals the box office with all that he does. This year he released the star packed action-comedy Merry Men to great buzz. Last we heard the movie had made a grand total of N230 million.
