COMING SOON: Rainmakers

Nigerian filmmaker and CEO of Anthill Studios, Niyi Akinmolayan, is gearing up to release his upcoming documentary titled, “Rainmakers.”

The documentary delves into the world of twenty rainmakers hailing from three Nigerian states, examining the mystical craft of rainmaking in contrast to modern scientific weather predictions. Niyi Akinmolayan highlights that the documentary compares the outcomes of weather app forecasts with the age old powers of tradition, incorporating deities such as Agemo, Sango and Osun.

“In 2022, I embarked on a journey with Ade Obatoyinbo and a camera team, capturing the essence of rainmaking in Ogun, Oyo and Edo states.” shared Niyi in an instagram post, shedding light on the genesis of the upcoming documentary. “I did all the necessary rituals and learnt a lot about rainmaking.”

The documentary will be available from March 1, 2024 on Prime Video which will be narrated by Ade Obatoyinbo. Niyi’s recent films are Mikolo and The House of Secrets.
