Grown is a satirical-fantasy drama about a spoiled teenage girl who is resentful of her mother and desires to be an adult to be free from her. To her greatest surprise, she gets her wish as she suddenly wakes up grown and married with kids. She realizes that adulthood is a scam, and now she must fight to be young again.
Directed by Ola’ Jegede IV and Empress Blessing Allen, the film follows a seventeen year old protagonist, Osas, who suddenly becomes a thirty-one year old adult, which explores the themes of adulthood, motherhood, love, fear, childhood and magic, with the story connecting both the past and present. Osas is portrayed as naive, afraid, childlike despite her old and struggling with her father’s death.
Story by Uyi, and produced by Desmond Ebuwa Ekunwe and Nosa Isibor, the movie stars Sarah Obiekwe, Efe Irele, Najite Dede, Patrick Diabuah, Ejovwoke Olikuntuyi and Oluwaseyi Akinsola, among others.
Written by Nosa Isibor and Boakye D. Alpha, It premieres on Africa Magic Showcase on 2nd March by 8:30pm WAT, and Africa Magic Urban 9th March by 8:00pm WAT.
The film aims to highlight a present situation- We live in an age where young children are exposed to a lot of things through the media and they are pushed towards wanting and desiring to grow up and not focusing on being young, naive, and simple.
