“All The Colors In The World Are Between Black and White” is a heart-wrenching glimpse into the forbidden love between men in modern-day Nigeria. Following a motorcycle courier and aspiring photographer, the narrative unfolds as they grow closer while navigating the complexities of their relationship in the vibrant city of Lagos.
The film follows Bambino, a delivery driver in Lagos, leading a simple life until he meets Bawa, a charismatic photographer, during a photo competition. Soon after the two men hit it off and gradually their friendship blossoms into something deeper.
The film employs subtle visual language to depict the characters’ cautious behaviors around each other, emphasizing their subtle gestures and glances. All these happening in a society where same-sex relationships face taboo and potential violence, the characters navigate their feelings with care.
‘All The Colors In The World Are Between Black and White’ premiered on 17th February 2023 as part of the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival, in Panorama where it was awarded a Teddy Award. Italy-based Coccinelle Film Sales acquired the world rights of the film.
The film is written and directed by Babatunde Apalowo. The principal cast include Tope Tedela, Riyo David and Martha Ehinome Orhiere. The producers are Damilola Orimogunje, Jesurobo-Owie Gift Imafidon and Tunde Apalowo.
