Kenneth Gyang is one of the founding members of Cinema KpataKpata, a production company established in collaboration with Yinka Edwards and Tom Rowlands-Rees. Gyang has been instrumental in shaping the landscape of Nollywood filmmaking industry. Their latest project, “This is Lagos,” is produced in partnership with Technical Magic Media.
“This is Lagos” unfolds the narrative of Stevo, a young aspirant chasing stardom in a city teeming with diverse individuals. Stevo is an aspiring musician eager for a breakthrough in Nigeria’s vibrant music. He discovers love and companionship in an eclectic group.
Directed by Kenneth Gyang, renowned for his work on Oloture, Blood Sisters and many more, the project is a collborative effort with Tom Rowlands-Rees, Jide Makinde, Olanrewaju Olalusi and Charles Okpaleke, supported by Sterling Bank. This ambitious production, evolving from a short story by Crispin Oduobuk-Mfon Abasi, underwent over ten years of development.
Headlined by Gabriel Afolayan as Stevo, the ensemble cast features Ikechukwu Onunaku, Rahama Sadau, Kate Henshaw, Enyinna Nwigwe, Sani Muazu, David Jones David, Greg Ojefua, Mike Afolarin, Jibrin Homsuk and Laura Pepple. The film intricately explores the vibrant hustle and bustle of life in the city, Lagos.
Director Gyang shared his heartfelt connection to “This is Lagos,” describing it as his personal love letter to the city. Despite his existing body of work, he expressed a unique attachment to this project, emphasizing his desire to capture the genuine spirit of Lagos.
This is Lagos is expected to head to the big screens come December 25th 2023, as it promises a feature mixed with action, humor and drama.
