Kiss & Tell

-Story: [3 out of 5] I actually really enjoyed this story hence the reason why, like I said earlier, I don’t understand the entire negative hype surrounding the movie. And no be say, na because na RAA production way I go wan make sure e get positive rating because if you like be RAA production or be WAA production it makes no difference to me, a good movie is a good movie even if the devil ascended from hell to make it.

-Originality: [1 out of 5] I must admit as a movie it’s not very original. It’s a concept that has been over explored in if not all then a majority of American Romantic comedies (especially the Black American ones) but when it comes to Nollywood, it’s still not standing out like the first of its kind as it has probably been done before but on a smaller scale and with less articulation.

-Predictability: [0 out of 5] Any Tom, Dick and Harry saw the end coming but I don’t think it should count against the movie because like I’ve said on countless reviews “feel good movies should not be punished for their genre” and I believe this even more now after I saw the Bollywood 2012 disaster of a movie “Ek main aur ek tu” which in its desperate attempt to be ‘different’ from all other “feel good romantic comedies”, bummed entirely. 

-Acting quality: [2 out of 5] The acting in this movie was generally good. Props to Nse though, honestly, she has grown to become a force to reckon with in the Nigerian….sorry… in the African movie industry. However I did notice one problem with the acting in this movie. Joe’s intonations, and Monalisa’s to a certain extent (in fact, everyone, but Nse’s intonations) were a bit awkward. He was supposed to come off as classy, sexy, charming, seductive, well spoken, has a way with words, but…. it didn’t work for me in many scenes. It seemed a bit, not rehearsed, not forced but something in between.

I think the most exciting part about the actors in this movie for me was seeing Bhaira. Uhm.. I don’t think I’ve reviewed any of her other movies but Bhaira Mcwizu (on left) was a winner of some AMBO a couple years ago. I remember the day she was auditioning in front of us all with Uche Jombo and Tchidi and we had suffered through so many horrid auditions and… honestly were just ready for the day to be over and then she walked in and she was a pro. I’d never seen someone who acting looked so good on that up close before. It was no surprise that she won AMBO that year and I’m so excited that she’s on the RAA crew, I really wish her all the best in life and her career (even though she only had like three scenes in this movie) NOTE: Nigerian Actress Bhaira McWizu is now “Bayray McNwizu

-Setting and Costume/Make-Up: [4 out of 5] Setting costume and make up was a job well done. The set I really liked, besides everything, was the bar set in the first part. You see, in your typical Nigerian movie bar/club setting, it’s really dark and you can barely make out the actors and actresses. Everyone is clustered next to the next person like a pack of sardines. They’re all sweating. Honestly, it looks like a bungalow set up in Mushin and all the area boys were invited alongside their Ekaete gurlfriends. Unlike the typical, this bar was actually very spacious. Everyone there was not overdressed or under dressed… there was protocol and there was an air conditioner.

-Video Quality [3 out of 5] Great

-Soundtrack and Musical Score [3 out of 5] All I can say is that I love Slam, but there was a scene in the first or second part (I can’t remember for sure) where Joe had finally gotten Monalisa alone on a date and they were talking and all of a sudden the background music became louder than their voices. It was a bit annoying.
