Finally a watchable Christian movie
I had mentioned back in “The Advocate” review that one thing that irks me about Zion movies (aka Nollywood Christian movies) is the approach. For some reason it seems that directors/producers/whoever is involved in the process feels like because he or she is making a movie for God then they can do whatever they want, put in no research and pray that God will somehow save the movie.
False! I know it’s not in the Bible per-say but I’m a firm believer in the principle of “God helps those who help themselves”
So it was not without reason that I had my reservations about this movie after discovering that it was a Christian movie. My reservations, however, did not last very long.
Why? (Not that the early soundtrack helped but…) First of all the director, Pascal Amanfor might not be known for too many ‘original’ scripts (or whatever his fault is – I don’t remember right now) but it is yet to be said that he was involved in a mediocre/nonsensical production.
Secondly, the narrator – Bukky Ajayi. First of all, let me point out that I don’t watch Yoruba movies so in truth I don’t see much of Bukky Ajayi. But whenever I’ve seen her in an English movie it has been splendid, from Widows Cot till now.
And finally the cast. For most, there is not much attractive about the cast. What with no Genevieve, no Omosexy, no Ramsey, no eye-candy. True! There is no eye-candy but when you’re done looking for aesthetics and start looking for things of real value, you’ll realize that this movie does not lack.
Starting with Solomon Akiyesi, an actor that has acted oh so many diverse roles and is yet to fall short. Mr. Akiyesi had a splendid rendition of the character and was definitely believable (dare I say, he almost resembles Pastor Oyedepo). And then unto Aunty UK. She has played the witch oh so many times that some people have developed a natural abhorrence for her – understandable. But to me, no matter how typecast her screen career has become, I can’t but love her. I don’t know what it is about her, be it her demenour or her talent or maybe it’s that diction of hers. Whatever the case might be, Eucharia Anunobi is an amazing actress. And it was great to see her in a different role which she carried out to the tee.
And then we have Clem Ohameze, Ngozi Ezeonu and every other member of the cast who all did well with their characters, exempting a few of the extras. A couple extras here and there were weak and had room for improvement, for example the young Daniel.
It’s probably one of the only Nollywood Christian movies that I’ve seen that was entirely watchable, even in its four-partology. It was entertaining, and almost nearly made me teary eyed.
Hey,
My apologies to anyone offended. I’ve read your points and you pose valid arguments. I shall see what I can do about it.
Thanks for your comments 🙂
You talk as if you know the boys age? Aside that someone asked you to watch the movie again & get back to us but you never did cos you felt you be spoken. Yes every one that will be great in life has room for improvement but my dear you never said it as if there is something good about the boy. Pls NR I suggest you appologise or you go & rest
Just reading all these comments & surprised you could condenm the young boys acting out of all the actors in that movies. Good a thing I ve seen the movie. NR, go bck & see the movie again cos the young Daniel waz great, Solomon & Eucheria were also great & pect more from Ngozi Ezeonu.
From the other comments I noticed pple are actually impressed about the boys acting coming from a boy as young as that. Plz the boy is good and should be comended and encouraged by pple like you. Do you see his deliveries? I suggest you go back and watch the movie again and come bac to us.
You obviously don’t remember the young boys acting bcos you feel he is not a star & you remembered Ngozi Ezeonu’s acting bcos you think she is a star. I don’t know the boy but you have no ryt or sence of human to criticize a child. Shame on you. Before I 4get make sure you watch movies well b4 criticizing or don’t let me challenge you by giving you a script to act.
Are you talking about the youngest Daniel or the Middle Daniel? Sure its not the younges Daniel bcos he is one of the best in the Movie. He waz great, Solomon and Eucheria were also awesome
First of all, let me state it here that what you said about pascal not been known for doing original script Is totally false. Infact I am yet to find someone in his place who has worked with little or no resources and still come out with an enormous interpretation. Then again I really think you should go back & watch the movie. How can you say the young Daniel was weak? Did you actually watch Ngozi Ezeonu? I think she was the weakest link. Let’s give kudos to that little boy. Lastly this movie so far is the best Christian movie ever done in Nigeria. Nice one people
I think the weak link was Ngozi Ezeonu and not the young child. He did very well. Clem ohamese, Eucharia anunobi and Solomon AKiyesi did very well. This is Solomon akiyesis best ever. This movie deserves a 4 star not 3 stars like you rated.
You obviously didn’t watch God of Shiloh if you tell me the young Daniel waz weak. Do you know his age? Have you started writing at his age? Plz be truthful in your reviews. Thank you.
