Pleasure and Crime
Annie Macaulay, Ini Edo, Tobechukwu Anadi, Tonto Dikeh, Yul Edochie
-Story: [2 out of 5] In general, this was a good movie. A pretty informative story line, I could say.
-Originality: [3 out of 5] All in all, pleasure and crime had a pretty original story line. Some would call it eye-opening, I say, if you did not know this could happen in Naija then you need to relocate, period.
-Predictability: [0 out of 5] To a certain extent, the title lets you know what will happen so you are pretty much presented with the pleasure in the beginning scenes but thanks to the title one starts watching out for the crime aspect. And like a good old predictable Nollywood movie, ‘Pleasure and Crime’ delivers.
-Directing/Editing: [2 out of 5] No major qualms except one thing. Throughout the movie, there was an advertisement scrolling through the top screen that said “For further ENQUIRES contact…” If you ask me, it’s bad enough that the thing had to scroll on my screen for the whole 4 hours, but the gbagaun definitely didn’t make it any better o. I also didn’t understand most of the murder scenes as well, it seemed to me like Yul just covered their nose and mouth and then the people died hmph! Lemme try it…lol jk
-Acting Quality: [2 out of 5] For the most part, I was pretty content with the acting being that all there was on the screen was Yul, Ini and Tonto. Then they decided to introduce their spouses… then it all went downhill. The men who played the roles of Tonto and Ini’s husbands were both equally unconvincing. Tonto’s husband did not carry out the emotions to the end, hence I was not convinced. And in the case of Ini’s husband, I can’t lay my hands on what was wrong but there was definitely something off. I think Annie Macaulay (on left) is doing pretty well for herself but she still has work to be done. Since the first movie I saw her in (whatever that may have been) I think she has become a better actress but there is still room for improvement. When she is on screen, I still get the feeling that she is acting and even though she is, it should be more natural. I have no doubt, however, that with time she will be a force to recon with in the industry. Till then though…
-Setting and Costume: [2 out of 5] Hallelujah someborri! Yul did not have his usual signature lil’ tight shirts in this movie oh however the white shoes were still very much present. Don’t get me wrong oh! I don’t have a problem with the shoes after-all they are his signature, it seems.
-Video and Audio Quality [2 out of 5] The video and audio was generally on point except for the part where they shot a night scene and I couldn’t see what was going on. I repeat to all Nigerian Directors, producers and editors: I CAN NOT SEE IN THE DARK OH! I don’t have night vision goggles.
-Soundtrack [2 out of 5] I wasn’t in love but it was alright.
