Why Marry
Majid Michel, Yvonne Okoro
The movie Why Marry only has two parts (or Two Episodes as they are called). Why Marry ep.1 and ep.2
Frank Rajah Arase
-Story: [2 out of 5] I was really really excited to see this movie for many reasons. Firstly because it was a Frank Rajah movie and I’m always curious as to what foreign movie he is copying this time or whose work he is illegally remaking without the rights to. The second reason for my excitement was because it is a Majid Michel movie and Majid Michel movies are just naturally exciting. The final and most important reason would have to be the fact that it was a two cast movie. I wanted to know what they could possibly have to act in two parts with only two people in it but apparently there was enough (hmm). The story was good but the ending was a bit bland in my opinion.
In the last few scenes, I was extremely lost. I literally had no clue what was going on.
-Originality: [0 out of 5] I hear that this movie was a copy of Said Balogun’s two cast movie in Yoruba from a few years back. I don’t know how true this is because I personally have not seen the Yoruba film in question. I don’t even know the Yoruba film’s title (if you do please drop a comment and let me know). However, enough people have commented on the theft that I am led to believe that they are telling the truth (everyone can’t be lying, right?). Then again, it’s pretty easy for me to believe that Frank Rajah stole another movie. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time he did it. This still doesn’t take away from the ‘general awesomeness’ of the movie as a whole.
***REVISED*** I have now seen the trailer for the movie from which Frank Rajah ripped this storyline and I’ve added the trailer below this. Even though it’s not subtitled and my Yoruba is not great, I can still tell that it is very much like Why Marry. At this point, I’ve seriously lost all respect for Frank Rajah, however the rating for this movie can only go down so much because even though it is theft, it is still a good movie.
-Predictability: [3 out of 5] To me, the ending seemed like the most cliche ending in movie history.
-Directing/Editing: [3 out of 5] Good
-Acting Quality: [4 out of 5] Great!!!! There were a lot of amazing moments in this movie. This leads me to believe that reduction in cast might just be equivalent to an increase in film quality (yup, I’m a student. Fimile)
-Settings and Costumes: [3 out of 5] On point
-Video and Audio Quality [4 out of 5] Great
-Soundtrack [4 out of 5] Love love loooovvvve the soundtrack(s). I’m loving Bernie Anti’s works more daily. Here is the soundtrack (LIVE WITH ME)
Lol. Ewoo! Don’t give up on Nollywood endings yet o biko, they are actually some amazing endings like ‘the figurine’. Yeah it did start off good but just lost track and eventually things just started happening
Ok never saw the yoruba one, since I dont speak yoruba.
I have given up on Nollywood endings, they can never do it for me again.
It started off well but got boring cause story was like going on a merry go round. I’d give it a 5/10 actually…sigh
My say on this is…I don’t speak Yoruba so it was nice to make an English version of it. The movie was nice and I didn’t realize there were only 2 people in the movie until someone said it. The ending was just “blaaaaa” for me.
The first half of the movie so promising, then it evolved into a cinematic monstruosity.
The director became too big for his britches and butchered the top acting performances of Majid Michel and Yvonne Okoro. What a waste of talent!
Frank Rajah Arase needs some mental ventilation in between movies, he overdid it in this film. The end was a hot mess, my sister and I were so mad…
Yvonne had so many killer line delivery and she was was on par with Majid, in terms of energy and dedication to the role.
I love your word choice Lipamboli, lol @ “cinematic monstruosity”, “mental ventilation”
woah wat a show really fantastic keep it up nd act more reasonably
Interesting. leme go check em out
ive seen modupe temi and this is’why marry’ stole 98% from it. so disgusting…rate it lower!
the name of the yoruba movie is MODUPE TEMI, and i guess the movie is still on utube, please go check it in other to give this movie the true rating it deserves, i don’t like it when someone rips another’s work(eg sin of the soul was a rip off of emem’s movie fragile pain, but frank and heroes production were highly praised for that movie while forgeting the fact that the whole movie besides slight changes were a rip off of emem’s movie) and they are highly crdited for it, in my opinion i think this movie does not deserve what u gave it, it deserves way lower because it is a rip off, may be not the whole movie but the concept and most of the scenes were copied exactly from the yoruba movie,so to be fair do the research before giving ur rating.
