My Sister’s Honor
Edward Marbel, Gavivina Tamakloe, George Williams, Grace Nortey, Jackie Appiah, Kalsum Sinare, Roselyn Ngissah, Selassie Ibrahim, Vincent Maccauley, Vivian Achor
-Story: [1 out of 5] So this is yet another stolen Bollywood movie (see: “originality”) my own is that if you are going to steal a movie from a different culture then make sure that it is applicable in your own culture and in your own time. Don’t steal a 1994 Indian movie and try to apply it into post-western influences Ghanaian times (aka 2009). It is literally unbelievable according to any standards that parents who claim to love their daughter will get her to marry her deceased sister’s husband just so she can take care of the child. I mean… that has to be some level of incest right? In fact fashee that side, what a warped method of thinking… did all the nannies finish in Kumasi? (***insert extremely long sigh here***)
-Originality: [0 out of 5] This movie is a rip of the 2005 Bollywood movie, “Bewafaa” (Unfaithful) starring Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor
-Predictability: [1 out of 5] Well the question really is… “have you seen the Bollywood version?”
-Directing/Editing: [1 out of 5] Yes! The movie is only in three parts… but there were too many overly prolonged scenes of Vincent in his drunken stupor and Kalsum Sinare talking endlessly. Tell me why I have to watch the maid serve oga and madam food. Then watch oga and madam sit down to eat. Theeen watch oga and madam actually eat and THEN now come and watch them wipe their mouth (i’m even tired typing it all sef). No apparent cinematography (shooting from under the center table? Really? You’re trying to show me that you have a flexible camera?)
-Acting quality: [2 out of 5] Vincent Maccauley was actually quite impressive in this movie, a bit forceful in every other scene but regardless he did a good enough job. Jackie Appiah! I’ve seen better from her… Selassie Ibrahim, I never thought she could act and my opinion has still not changed. Kalsum Sinare was sooo skinny… wow! Money good sha o. Besides having less weight in this movie, she was also less forceful in this movie. Edward Marbel was a load of ‘bleh’ in this movie… and a little more. George Williams! For some reason (here comes a corny line), my soul does not accept him… haha! It is what it is. Regardless, the cast did an ok job. Love Vivian Achor. Anyone else not mentioned did not do anything worth mentioning.
-Setting: [3 out of 5] Ok
-Costume/Make-Up: [2 out of 5] What was Kalsum wearing in the name of suit? In fact, forget that one… what was up with all the weaves in this movie? They looked like ‘when DKB met Zainab’ (BBA 2012)… if you don’t understand, please utilize google
-Props and Graphics: [3 out of 5] Graphics! Wow! That surgery… I did not need to see all that. #EnoughSaid
-Video Quality: [3 out of 5] Ok
-Audio Quality [3 out of 5] Ok
-Soundtrack: [2 out of 5] Ok but none of the stolen songs were attributed in the end
-Musical Score: [3 out of 5] Nicely done
