[dropcap]A[/dropcap]sides from bringing up many of our current stars and recreating great Bollywood storylines, Frank Rajah Arase is also a master at ensuring that his movies have great songs in them. This one point is arguably a strong reason why the vast majority of Frank Rajah Arase movies, especially around 2008, are simply unforgettable.
In this list we are going to run down what we think have been Rajah’s most memorable sounds. Our gratitude goes out to Austin Erowele who was responsible for a majority of the earlier sounds and Bernie Anti who was responsible for many of the most recent sounds:
10. “Why Why Why” from Behind a Smile is one that is easy to forget and not very readily recalled by many. However, the effect of the song during the movie was quite poignant and who can forget that beautiful beat by Austine Erowele.
9. “African Soldier” from Somewhere in Africa. Alright so not too many people might know of this one because it is relatively newer than others. It was also at the end of the movie, so some might have missed it entirely. However, this one by Bernie Anti (I think – please correct me) has a beautiful and strong and very relevant message.
8. “Oh True Love” from The Prince’s Bride. In case you haven’t noticed yet, we are completely manufacturing the titles of these songs lol. Anyway, now we are definitely getting into the songs that we remember. This beautiful song was the soundtrack to yet another earlier Frank Rajah Arase film.
7. “We Need You” from Somewhere in Africa. So this is probably the one that most people remember from the movie. Somewhere between the sobs of tears and absolute hatred of Majid’s character was this beautiful soundtrack by the Orchestrator – Bernie Anti – playing in the background. P.S. the song can also double as a gospel worship song
6. “Ilugbo Kingdom” from Princess Tyra. I promise this song probably only has 3 to 5 lines that are on loop. But this song was played so much in the movie that it forced itself to become unforgettable. So sing along, you know you know the lyrics, “Ilugbo Kingdom where I come from, it’s a land filled with milk and honey…”!
