Ok so I have been trying to understand it. In fact, I gave it a couple of days just to fully grasp it and I have come to the conclusion that the major reason why this movie works is because you do not expect it to. I mean, what with a title like “one minute man” (a mention that really only lasts for about a minute in the entire movie) and a base cast that consists primarily of unrecognizable faces.
One Minute Man is the story of a young medical student Alex (played by Roseanne Marcel), a young lady who has given up entirely on love and dedicates her life to finding a man who is large in the pocket and large ‘otherwise’. Fortunately or unfortunately for her, life has other plans and she meets and falls for a man she would never have otherwise considered.
She meets and falls for Daniel (played by Okeowo Taiwo) who is also a doctor but one who appears to not meet Alex’s financial requirements initially. Overtime, she falls for him to the extent that she overlooks all the things in him that she initially would have considered flaws.
Let’s get right to it, this is a chic flick. And even to make matters worse, for all my traditionalists out there, it is very lax on the morals, but for some reason or the other it works.
Let’s get all the cons of the movie out of the way first. Sometimes, the new actors aren’t so hot in carrying the scene (1 out of 5 times), sometimes it is hard to believe the exuberant sisters of Daniel and the story might just be a little too on the surface.
However (now to the pros), it’s one heck of an entertaining watch and it carries you from scene to scene that you don’t want to stop until it is over… and even after it’s over it’s still enticing. The lead of new actors were able to hold their own in most of the scene and the support from established actors like Tina Mba, Kalu Ikeagwu and Seun Akindele helped to fill in any deficiencies created.
One Minute Man was an entertaining watch without a dull moment.
