“BLOODLINE” is an irokotv.com original series starring Mercy Johnson, Yul Edochie, Oge Okoye, Chigozie Atuanya, Kehinde Olorunyomi, Bolanle Ninolowo, amongst others.
It follows the lives of five sisters living alone in one house. Their parents passed away in an accident seven years ago and now the eldest daughter, Miranda, is the breadwinner.
Miranda, played by Mercy Johnson, is the peace keeper of the family along with being the financial and emotional supporter of everyone at home. However, she is not only supporting people at home. She is also supporting her no-good useless man-gold-digger of a boy-toy, Bode – played by Chigozie Atuanya. I want to be vexed at the audacity of him leeching on her when he knows what she’s going through. But then I remember that Chigozie has played enough sugar-daddy roles to various sugar babies that we figure it’s about time he got his own piece of the pie.

Then we meet sister number two (in ascending order from the eldest). Sister number two is Cynthia, played by the fabulous Kehinde Olorunyomi. Cynthia is a Jesus warrior – even though sometimes her actions don’t match that (as demonstrated by her not being the nicest person at times and also kissing “some people” back… cough cough… but I digress). Cynthia is a college graduate who has been looking for a job for the past two years. To use her own sisters words, “now all she does is eat, watch TV and read the Bible”.
In episode two, on her way out of the shower, Cyntha falls (might I add this is the first glimpse of true drama that we find in this entire show at all) and she has to call her sister to help her. Her sister, Miranda, upon arrival calls the doctor to find out what to do (alright). This doctor, played by Bolanle Ninalowo, tells her not to move her (ok) and that he will be on his way and would be there as soon as possible (really though? Is that how free your schedule is… but ok).
[pullquote_right]same one who does wound dressings, same one who delivers crutches, and also the same one doing surgery (super doctor toh bad!)[/pullquote_right]
Doctor comes over to the house to treat sister Cynthia and then starts to become a frequent house guest because apparently doctor-sir has caught feelings (sheesh, let’s all forget ethical guidelines. Who needs those when we have a love story in the making). One thing that really gets me about this super-fabulous doctor is that he is the same one who makes house visits, same one who gives medications and shots, same one who does wound dressings, same one who delivers crutches, and also the same one doing surgery (super doctor toh bad!).
Then we have middle sister, Bella. Bella is a final year student studying theatre arts. It was at this point that I pumped all breaks. Really? Theatre arts huh? Your one sister is carrying the entire household, the other sister has spent two years jobless with a degree and you get a choice to choose a path and you chose theatre arts? (I realize that I sound like an old fashioned mama so I will just keep quiet now).
[pullquote_left]Bella goes for an audition where she meets the inevitable director who wants to sleep with her.[/pullquote_left]
Bella goes for an audition where she meets the inevitable director who wants to sleep with her. She slaps him yadi yadi ya, he blacklists her yadi yadi ya, then she somehow meets Oge Okoye who is playing herself in this show and she finally acquires a lead role.
Then there is Sarah, the next sister who is obsessed with boys. She lives them, she breathes them, that’s all she thinks about. To the extent that she almost gets raped by a ‘friend’ and she still continues to meet up with him (*side eye*). By the end of episode six, Sarah finally does something we can be proud of her for. She gets solicited by her professor and her response to it is… well… we’re going to let you find out for yourself.
Finally we have the little forgetful sister, Naomi. Naomi cannot remember a thing to save her life. It is almost ridiculous how quickly she forgets things. Really! It. Is. Almost. Ridiculous…writers!!!… let’s try to be a little less obvious. How does someone forget something she was just told seconds ago though? This one has gone from play and entered medical condition.

Between episode one and six we see armed robberies, amnesia cases, celebrity musician characters played by actors that cannot act to save their lives, terrible judgments, gunshots that do odeshi, and many others, so what’s the verdict?
This show is not high on drama as of yet but the cast definitely keeps you intrigued. I feel safe with this cast, that no matter how much the storyline could possibly disappoint, the cast will somehow manage to save the show. So we’ll keep watching and keep you updated.
