PLAYTHING (An Animated Short)
Stumbled on a link on Twitter today with a quote that said some version of “…and they say Nigerians cannot do animations”. To be fair, most of us have had a bad experience in the name of watching one Nigerian animation or the other.
I don’t doubt that there are talented Nigerian animators out there, but they are probably working for another country because Nigeria is not there yet.
However, after hitting play on what I thought would be a quick in and out, I must say that Eri Umusu and Nurdin Momodu might be on to something. It might not be as fluid as the latest from Pixar but it feels like it is only a year or two behind Pixar.
This little clip in and of itself is exciting and has created dreams of the future where we are reviewing a load of Nigerian animated movies. Imagine even an animated web series on YouTube, I’m down but until then enjoy the video.
Plaything is about Ayodeji, a young boy whose boring afternoon takes a thrilling turn when he discovers his toys can do much more than just lie around in a pile. Or can they? It is written and directed by Eri Umusu and Nurdin Momodu with music by Ava Momoh,
