Kemi Adetiba’s “The Wedding Party” seems to be all the rave this season but not just in words but also in returns. The word of mouth has been great and now the numbers are in and it’s currently holding the record for the biggest opening weekend for Nigerian movies. Beating out Hollywood’s “Rogue One” at the box office, The Wedding Party has made a gross N36 million in its opening weekend.
This number beats the previous record of N35 Million that was held by AY Makun’s “A Trip to Jamaica”. It seems the members of the big leagues are changing and we’re glad to have another female producer to add to the list that currently includes AY Makun, Kunle Afolayan and Omoni Oboli.
It’ll be interesting to see how TWP fares for the rest of the week at the box office. Here are the numbers to beat:
