A TV series about a guy (Desmond), who through his good looks attracts ladies, moves into a neigbourhood and causes nothing but jealousy amongst the ladies in the compound.
I don’t know if the rules are different for nollywood web series or this series had absolutely no desire to follow any rules because there was hardly any structure to this series.
“My Neighbours’ Wives” follows the story of Desmond – a fine bobo – who recently moved into a new apartment complex. Desmond, played by Bolanle Ninalowo, is a great looking full time actor with an accent so naturally he attracts all the ladies. The problem is that most of the ladies he is attracting are all taken – and their husbands live in the same complex as he does.
The first 3 episodes are completely devoid of any kind of structure. When you watch a series you expect a basic introduction in the first episode. The next few episodes might still continue on with the introductions but in the least some sort of conflict is introduced in the first episode in order to give the viewers something to come back for.
That was not the case in “My Neighbours’ Wives”
Episode 1-3 simply sees each successive wife embarrassing herself more than the last one in order to get Desmond to notice her. The only reason I list episode 1-3 and not episodes 1-7 is because at least by episode 4 there’s some sort of conflict in the form of the wives openly disgracing themselves by fighting for the man in his own apartment.
Needless to say, do not go into this series looking for depth or storyline. Simply go in looking to be amused with a sufficient ‘time-pass’ of a television series. There’s neither groundbreaking performances nor memorable storylines here – just a barrage of embarrassing moments replayed in a loop.
I kept waiting for Desmond’s girlfriend to show up because I hoped that would be a trigger to the storyline when she shows the other wives that he is taken. But instead what we get is phone conversations with a girlfriend who is always going to show up ‘tomorrow’ – except ‘Tomorrow’ never comes.
I lifted my hands up in surrender when the character of Angel was introduced. Angel is Desmond’s ex from his days in the states and he agrees to have her come live with him while she is trying to get a footing in the industry. He agrees to this knowing fully well that his ‘girlfriend’ is coming tomorrow.
It was at this point that we decided to take a break from this series.
