Following the success of their 2019 remake of the classic movie “Living In Bondage“, Play Network Studios has since released a list of nollywood classics with modern remakes/re-tellings in the pipeline.
The following is a list of the titles announced thus far:
1. Rattle Snake
The original movie 1995 movie was written and directed by Amaka Igwe in 1995 with a sequel titled “The Return of Ahanna”. Francis Duru played the young Ahanna whose father’s wealth was stolen by his uncle, played by Nkem Owoh (Osuofia). He then enters a life of crime and exerts vengeance on his uncle.
2. Nneka the Pretty Serpent
Next on the line up is the horror film that served as the launch pad to Ndidi Obi’s career (did you notice the appearance of Ndidi Obi in the remake of “Living in Bondage” as Kanayo O. Kanayo’s wife/Enyinna Nwigwe’s mother? Did you also notice how her character’s name here was Nneka?)
Nneka The Pretty Serpent is a Zeb Ejiro film released in 1994 that tells the story of Nneka, a mermaid in human form, that loved pursuing married men and seducing them with her charms.
3. Glamour Girls
Glamour Girls released in 1994-6 was one of the first nollywood movies to explore a concept that nollywood movies of these days have beaten to its death. It tells the story of a group of young women living in the city who do whatever is necessary to make ends meet including sleeping with married men, swindling them and everything else in between.
The film was directed by Chika Onukwufor and starred Gloria Anozie, LIz Benson, Sola Fosudo, Jennifer Okere and others. It was also written by Kenneth Nnebue.
5. Osuofia Goes To Miami
Following the success of Ukwa, the 2003 comedy hit “Osuofia in London” is possibly the most acclaimed work by Nkem Uwoh. The film tells the story of a village man, Osuofia, whose brother in London passes away. After his brother’s death, he is required to make a trip to London in order to finalize his inheritance of his brother’s properties. Upon getting there he realizes that everything isn’t quite on the straight and narrow.
