Love In Lagos is a cute story of a young naive Zara (Sandra Okunzuwa) who comes to live with her cousin in Lagos. She desperately searches for a job because every day she spends jobless elicits further taunting from her cousin. She goes from menial jobs to finally landing an interview in a renowned company as the CEO, Damini’s personal assistant (Deza the Great). Damini is hesitant to hire her because Zara has an uncanny resemblance to his late fiance. However, he eventually hires her and over time a love story blossoms.
I honestly will probably need to tattoo this beside the title of all YouTube movies we see and that’s that “it’s a YouTube movie so there’s only so much one can expect”. For this movie, that truth applies most in terms of the originality of the storyline. If you pressed play on this then it’s guaranteed that you know how it would end and it ends just like that. There is no novel exploratory writing happening here. Even our random cousin that has taken on the Mama G role has a very simplistic explanation as to the source of her rancor. Be that as it may though, there’s something endearing about the life that Sandra Okunzuwa gives to the character of Zara that keeps us watching from scene to scene. That and the chemistry between Zara and Damini makes us wish that more scenes were given to the two of them together and alone.
The production of Love In Lagos had certain decently done aspects such as the music and many silly aspects. One silly thing that I had the hardest time trying to see past was how this company was supposedly a huge deal, yet the name of the company was simply written with ink on A4 paper and taped onto the door of a room to let people know where they are going. Please now… have mercy on us the viewers.
If you are looking for a chill film to watch with a little bit of romance and you are capable of ignoring the usual nollywood pitfalls, Love In Lagos is an enjoyable way to spend any afternoon or evening.
