Anchor Baby
Omoni Oboli, Sam Sarpong, Terri Oliver, Colin Paradine, Mark Cassius, Cyrus Faird
Married, illegal immigrant couple Joyce (Omoni Oboli) and Paul Unanga (Sam Sarpong) have been ordered by the U.S. immigration to leave the country. They decide that they will leave, but only after Joyce, who is five months pregnant, delivers her baby in the U.S. This will guarantee automatic U.S. citizenship for their child.

Story: [4 out of 5] The story will definitely tug at your heart. There is no way you cannot feel for Joyce as she goes around looking for help and compassion. And it also calls for some discussion because her and her husband go through so many problems and woes just so they can have this baby in America, and then, go back to Nigeria. They do not say what is so special about America that their child must be a citizen. They risk so much for this to happen and through out the movie, I kept asking myself, “Is it worth it?”
Originality: [3 out of 5] All that glitters is not gold, but the story and circumstances were definitely original.
Predictability: [4 out of 5] Oh lawd! My friends and I had some suspicion that something was up but the end will took us completely by surprise. After the movie ended, I sat in the movie theatre, shell-shocked. “Did that just happen?”
Directing/Editing: [3 out of 5] I had never heard about the director and I wondered if he knew what he was doing. But he did a great job. It did not look like the he followed the ‘wuruwuru to the answer’ motto. And the effort he made was obvious. The film was very well put together.
Acting Quality: [3 out of 5] The actors all came with their game. Even the extras were believable and did not overact, thankfully. Omoni was goood! She did her character justice mehn. This is the only movie I ever saw Sam Sarpong in but he was not too bad. But I did feel like he was forcing the African accent a bit too much though.Terri Oliver was not just a pretty face. She deceived us when she wanted to, and she made us hate her when it was time.
Setting: [3 out of 5] Nothing insulted my intelligence.
Costume/Make-up: [3 out of 5] Thank goodness, I did not see the pregnant belly shaking around. Yes, I have actually seen that oh. Haha
Props and Graphics: [4 out of 5] Great
Video Quality: [4 out of 5] Awesome!
Audio Quality: [4 out of 5] ‘twas good and clear.
Soundtrack: [3 out of 5] I didn’t like it but it was original and did not divulge the secrets of the movie and it was fitting.
Musical Score: [3 out of 5] Nicely done.
I watched Anchor baby at the Silver bird cinema in lagos and I can bodly tell you the film is hot. The review did justice to the film and I can only hope Lonzo comes up with something superb. I do not mind if I am asked to act in his next movie. It was a good investment.
WILL SEE THIS MOVIE COS U SEEM TO HAVE GOOD THINGS TO SAY ABOUT IT.
Well actually this was a guest review not my review… but I’ve only ever heard good things about this movie so I have no doubt in my mind that it will be a good movie 🙂
