The village touch
Not the most original
Echoes of Love is old nollywood romance in a nutshell. It tells the story of a Prince who is set to pick his next bride from women of his village who come from the royal bloodline. To the surprise of everyone, he picks a maiden from a different village and is then taxed with winning her heart, making his father accept her and placating the maidens of the village who feel insulted.
As far as creativity in dialogue or originality in storyline goes, this movie is not necessarily the place to search for that. The lines aren’t anything real! You don’t feel the love along with the couple. In fact if they both drop dead in the next scene there would be no tears, just a straight up “o eya they haff died”. However, by the simple essence of the film. The village touch. The costumes. The flute. The movie manages to keep you coming back for three whole parts.
Three parts o! Of 90 minutes each. Needless to say it took me 2 weeks to finish this. Ken Erics and Ini Edo definitely had a strong role to play in giving us a reason to keep coming back. The chemistry between them is really not something that we can tap into because at the end of the movie, I still feel like I was told about their love instead of having felt it along with them. However, their performances and ability to carry their character gives us reason to see the movie true and find out exactly how this couple is going to “conquer their world and let their love win”. The supporting actors held their own and helped bring this feast of a movie into fruition.
