-Story: [4 out of 5] It was a killer. I believe that word does not even begin to express how magnificent the story was. As a matter of fact, I think I am going on a diet, a strictly Ruth Kadiri stories diet. If it’s not Ruth Kadiri, I’m not watching. But honestly, she did an amazing job, this is the second time I am watching a Ruth Kadiri story and again I am mind blown
-Originality: [3 out of 5] This movie is truthfully LIKE NOTHING ELSE IN THE MARKET. So you seriously need to grab a copy now and patronize Ms. Kadiri.
-Predictability: [4 out of 5] At all at all, this movie was not predictable. It’s not like it is one of those movies you are looking to predict but it was definitely good and unique. I must warn however that the sequel ‘Royal Fight’ leans more towards the end of being a chick flick, so guys be warned.
-Directing/Editing: [2 out of 5] No big problem but I am forced to delete points due to the commercial quality. All these things are the little things that contribute to the quality of Nigerian Entertainment and if the commercial is filled with mgbatimgba and a lot of loud noises, then I don’t think we are attracting anyone at all.
-Acting quality: [4 out of 5] One of the benefits of an all star movie is that you know that the people will at least be able to act. Rest assured that Chika Ike will have you cracking up the entire movie and Mercy Johnson is just comical. It really is a great assortment of talent.
-Setting and Costume: [2 out of 5] I really liked the attires in this movie as well as the setting. However, this is either a directing discrepancy, an acting error or just a costume mistake because the new wife came in wearing a certain dress and then in the next scene when it was supposedly two days later she was still wearing the same clothes. So?
-Video and Audio Quality [2 out of 5] I had a bit of a problem when it came to the audio it was as though the words came after the mouth moved. Maybe that’s just on my DVD but if it isn’t I’ll replace the points and recalculate. But till then…
-Soundtrack [3 out of 5] The music was amazing.
Hia! Sorry I am filling up your site with my comments but sho, hmm the new wife Kate says she hasn’t seen Dubem for TWO DAYS! And yet she is wearing exact same outfit she came into the palace with. Such royalty!
Another thing is how the heck does Dubem transcend from a tough village street fighter to a cry cry weeping queen? Abi is this what love does? This is the time that her yeye husband deserves a “hot” slap or rather an earth wrenching and mind shattering blow. And hmm, this one must be Nollywood magic, her English changes from village girl poor English to really good English just like that. Na wire oh.
Oh and I do not understand why people always go about talking of heirs and throne successors when the ruling king isn’t even old yet not to mention sick. I personally feel all the wahala and stress put on a supposedly barren woman chases the sperm away from fertilizing any eggs. Oh and I just heard now because I am typing this while watching the movie, his mom advised him to take another wife to bear children. I just feel like pulling out my hair, which kin yeye thing be dis? That is just like Power of Love too! Naija I hail oh..
I did not understand what the sequel of this movie meant half way through the first part of Royal Fight. Why is it that this theme is always repeated in one way or another. It was done in the old movie Power of Love starring Genevieve and Ramsey Noah. First they loved each other, forces tried to break them, they overcame got married and then what? They start having marital issues over the flimsy excuse of barrenness and the parents not helping matters. Why did the sequel follow this annoying route too? I don’t even get why people allow outsiders put their dirty mouths in their otherwise peaceful marriage. Anyway, I am still watching so let me finish it heeheehee.
This movie was the ish! I have watched it over and over again. Maybe because I am a hopeless romantic and I am a sucker for happy endings.
Now to your question and argument with your friends, hmmmmm…. The matter is somehow. Tchidi Chikere cannot act even if his life depended on it. Even if you put a gun to his head. Those facial expressions (which is only one BTW) just makes me want to pull the trigger. As for Desmond Elliot, he has surrounded himself with the best team so it’s hard to really tell if he sucks or not. Now to Ugeze J Ugeze, I think the guy should first perfect making his movies shorter, then go for speech therapy before he goes to acting school to get it together. All in all, just stick to making your movies shorter. Period!!! See, I can’t remember anyone who has really transitioned very well. Please correct me if I am wrong. That’s all for now folks.
Haha! Preach, I’ve only seen this movie as many times as I have teeth and now that I think about it, that’s probably why.
I might just be as hopeless of a romantic as you are.
Love love love your description for Ugezu and I couldn’t possibly agree more. #Classic lol. In fact, me thinks I shall quote you on my next Ugezu review
An honourable mention from NR? Hmmm…. now this is what I’m talking about. Yes, please. Go on ahead with your good self. LOL!!! I even spelt his name wrong. Sorry dude. But on the flip, NR thanks for all ya reviews. I appreciate them. On to the next movie. Yaay me!!!
Lmao… you’re hilarious. And you’re welcome 🙂
It should be a free choice to expand your talents in whatever capacities you have the talent for. Limiting to one thing doesn’t mean growth not unless your are just spectacular in that one area. Freedom to grow will be determine by you and the ones who have input your growth. In the film industry your growth and popularity is not determine by a few but by the majority. Of course there will be those who doesn’t think you have what it takes but how does that group compare to the number who really enjoy what an actor/director is doing? Is there seem to be a success rate or failure rate illuminating their work? Each director/actor will have their own style, is it a good, productive, and growing one? Let the rating do the talking on how limited a person can be as a actor/director? I say try both, if you find one doesn’t work for you then quit, but if you have found something you like and want to expand, work hard until you have buffed your talent to a brilliant shine. Don’t worry the people will let your know.
Flint that is your own opinion, just luike some reviews here,i have still seen some good actors and actresses that were not rated so well, and some are just okay but rated so high,so its everyone,s opinion, desmond is a very good director, yes, emem and desmond they know what they are doing, okay, people say junle afolanyan is great,he also flopped in phone swap,as far as i am concerened phone swap didnt really make sense, infact it didnt make sense, desmond is new in it,yet he is this good, with time he will be one of the best in África, but overall he is a good director, like moses ewang was rated high here, some people still belive he is not that good, its people,s opinion.thanks
while i would respect ur opinion, that doesn’t mean that truth shouldn’t be told, please go around and do a coincise survey of my arguement about desmond’s directing and see what result u will get, yes i agree desmond is new in the game, but are going to tell me that is an exuse for his short commings, please in all honesty do u really think that desmond is doing justice to those emem’s scripts he has been directing as well as the likes of the directors i mentioned in my last comment would have done, take away those big budgets, emem and her crew, and the excellent scripts from royal arts academy from desmond, then u will see the truth, give desmond an average budget, average producer and crew, and an average script, u will see the end result of the movie will be a far cry of what he has done with the royal arts academy crew, my dear u really can’t compare desmond and moses, moses outclasses desmond by a long shot, i haven’t seen phone swasp but the people i know that have had the opportunity to see it said it was amazing,so i think u seem to be in the minority of people that think it wasn’t good, besides phone swap is by far better than anything desmond has done.i too believe that with time desmond will get there, like the say practice leads to perfection, but as of now desmond isn’t there yet, please lets stop promoting mediocrity, how will the likes of emem, desmond and other nigerian filmmakers know that the should work harder when we the consumers and fans can’t tell them the truth.
i am of the school of thought dat if u can do both then go ahead and do it, but only when u are good in both, if not, then stick with the one u are better at. as for desmond’s directing,i don’t think it is good, this is one of the reasons i am pissed with emem isong, out of so many top notch directors in nigeria she settled for desmond, the only reason why desmond movies are ok, mind i said ok not great, is because he is working with a set of good producers, script writers, and overall good crew, check out the movies he has directed that has nothing to do with emem and the royal arts academy, they are not so good, when u are involved with a good production house, even a terrible director will produce something managable, when emem started the royal arts academy company she said she now wanted to do world class movies, but sorry emem i don’t think u are serious about achieving that because if u did i don’t think u will be using someone like desmond to direct ur movies, u should be hiring the likes of lancelot, danie, kunle, jeta, izu, mak kusare etc imagine if these mentioned names handled all those royal acadmey movies especially “i will take my chances” it really would have been world class, there isn’t any royal arts academy movie that is in the same league with movies like the figurine, the child, nnenda, cindy’s note, phone swap, black november, ije, anchor baby, last flight to abuja, mirror boy, maami, tango with me etc. though i believe with time desmond will get better in directing, but so far to me his directing isn’t there yet.
I agree with you a hundred and fifty percent on the I’ll Take My Chances part. Honestly that movie was just a waste of my precious time that I unfortunately can not get back. Bryan Okwara’s fine face might have helped me get through that movie but please he should remain in the modelling industry that his where his fine face belongs. Ini Edo was another case, she went from being a brilliant actress in World’s Apart to an overbearing screaming actress in almost all current roles. Why does she keep screaming at Bryan’s character repeatedly in her fronting ehn? I am surprised the guy didn’t run with his sneakers following him behind, perhaps that is the thing that attract certain men these days. And the movie left me more confused than when I even began, so many things were not explained. Firstly we didn’t get to know why she kept having those nightmares and why she kept dancing to the beat of a particular sound. All I enjoyed was the scenery and the dances.
Yea ruth kadiri,is trying to break into the movie world through script writing its working for her,she was hardly known initially, because now i see some new good actors,so there is competetion,i will look out for this movie, but Walter anga is not a good actor,he has a smiling face always,so i dont like seeing his movies, will try
That’s definitely a first. Well, I guess everyone’s opinions are different. What do you think about his directing then?
It’s not all directors that should act…I personally dont like desmond elliot acting so…
