Couple’s Game

This was such an ambitious move, only two casts, one or so locations. So ambitious, so inspired , so inventive and it was working until suddenly it wasn’t. I’m not even angry, just very very very disappointed. This could have been a benchmark in Nollywood but it isn’t because it must always be occultic or juju. It couldn’t have been what it marketed itself as, an exploration of a couples’ dilemma.

The plot itself was suspenseful, intriguing and definitely original. The nature of a two cast movie really made for an entertaining watch, it wasn’t like there were only two people in the film, others show up in phone calls, messages and have influences so there is no sense of isolation. They talk about things that happen outside the home and that really gives the whole thing a sense of reality. But that twist is unforgiveable, just unforgiveable and the end cements it as just another juju film. The characters are not likeable at all, coming from the wife beater husband to the cheating and flighty wife but that was what made it so fascinating. It feels like I am talking about two different films because it was two different films, the good one and the bad one about juju. Somethings are not as clear and that story just came out of nowhere. The title card talks about a woman that has been hurt and blahblahblah which heightens the suspense but the answer literally came out of nowhere.

Keira Hewatch and Seun Akindele give a solid performance even in the whole mess of it all. You never once get tired of their faces. The problem with this does not come from the acting at all. The props o the other hand really contributed it though, that pregancy belly was unbelieveably low, it just was not realistic.

In conclusion, I would not recommend this, no way no how. This was just a failed attempt at something clever, and we should all just forget about it. BTW wife beating is now okay because your wife doesn’t make breakfast for you.
