It is easily forgettable
At Your Service is a sweet story of a struggling young man who was in a relationship with the same girl since his university days. Asides from this relationship, the other thing his current life has with his university days are his ‘struggles’. He aspires to become a “chef” and owner of his own restaurant someday but is eons away from this landmark at this time. His girl, constantly unsatisfied with what he can offer her, meets and falls for an old classmate and leaves him for the richer guy.
The best thing this movie does is bring up conversation points. Points such as #1: this babe also graduated from university, why is no one talking about her failure in getting a job and affording her own things and paying for her own hair/taxi/car? #2: Is this even realistic, what are the odds that everyone with a similar story in real life meets a destiny helper, like Monalisa Chinda’s character, in their lifetime? And #3: Knowing these odds, if you’re a chic “would you stay?”, if you’re a guy “would you even want a girl to stay with you in that position? Considering that $1 is $1 for a single person but 50cents for a person in a relationship”.
Asides from these talking points, “At Your Service” is essentially a refined version of a Cinderella story. One character is broke and in a bad situation, another character – who seems out of his world (such as a fairy) – swoops in, takes them out of the bad situation and saves them financially as well.
SPOILER BELOW
No points for originality here but we can definitely spare some points for originality because “hands up” if you initially thought that the direction the storyline was going in would have Alexx’s character end up with Monalisa?
As far as performances go, same can be said for the actors as for the general movie which is that everything here is simply ‘alright’.
Still waiting for the day that Emem Isong will make a perfect comeback, she hasn’t impress me in the last 3-4years….
