-Story: [3 out of 5] I really liked the story of this movie in fact I heard (from reading the comments section) that most people actually cried during this movie, I probably would have too if it hadn’t taken me so long to finish it. I presume it’s easier to shed tears if the sadness is not interrupted by a 3-4 month break. Some things I liked about the story is that from the first scene, it plunges into the drama. No time wasting. No unnecessary 2 part exposition… just… drama. What I didn’t like about the movie was how long it was… I mean 6 parts really? It’s like Nkiru Sylvanus in ‘A Cry for Help’ all over again. And there were some loose ends in the story *SPOILER ALERT* like why did Kenneth need Johannes to actually sleep with Mercy when they could have just artificially inseminated her like they did in Victims?
-Originality: [3 out of 5] In the beginning of this movie, I was getting a RMD, Stella and Desmond Elliot in “Behind Closed Doors” vibe from this movie… but that changed significantly. I mean, it’s very different from that… if you just hang on.
-Predictability: [4 out of 5] I’m just going to go ahead and tell you my prediction for this movie based on synopsis and character line up. I had predicted that first of all Ken would ask his wife to sleep with his brother. She would fuss and eventually agree. They’d all fuss and eventually even the brother would agree. Then they’d do it. And then she’d get pregnant. And she’d give birth to the baby. And then the baby would turn wayward. Then she’d have her own baby. Who would be a saint…. (and you can see how it would spin off from here). But… for the most part… none of that happened. And… thank God too!
-Directing/Editing: [2 out of 5] The number one problem in the editing would be Chinwe Owoh’s parts. I thought it was lovely that she was speaking in Igbo but then again as Nollywood begins to appeal to a more international audience, and considering how much Chinwe spoke in Igbo in this movie (she delivered 75% of her lines in Igbo), it would be wise and fair to all the non-igbo speakers of the world that we subtitled Chinwe’s parts. Yes! Some of the time, her igbo comments were restated in English but people who can’t speak igbo don’t know this… they just feel left out. No 2 the movie dragged on forever. And No. 3 the first part began to bore me really quickly so I think the director or editor or producer or writer or whoever needs to work harder on KEEPING the attention of the audience.
-Acting quality: [3 out of 5] Mercy did an AMAZING job as usual. Kenneth Okonkwo was awesome. Chinwe Owoh and her igbo comments were phenomenal. But! For some reason, the act that stood out the most to me was Solomon Akiyesi (on left). I heard that he has been acting for a really long time but the first time I ever noticed him was when he played Omotola’s husband in Friendly Scorpion. I think the best thing about his performance was that whenever he used medical terminologies he actually used them well and correctly, unlike Olisadebe Chike in Days of Gloom. Solomon is a convincing everything. I’ve seen him as a convincing murderer, a convincing dupe, convincing husband, convincing brother and now a convincing doctor. Speaking of conviction, Johannes Maier… is not very convincing. The lady who played his wife was stunning. There was also a guest appearance by the late David Ihezie in this movie as the cancer specialist. And whoever they got to play *SPOILER* Ken’s adopted son was a horrible actor.
-Setting and Costume/Make-Up: [3 out of 5] Amazing
-Props and Graphics [3 out of 5] On Point
-Video Quality [3 out of 5] Good
-Audio Quality [2 out of 5] Definitely went up and down at some points.
-Soundtrack and Musical Score [2 out of 5] Is embedded on top and was sung by the actor, Ken Erics, who knew he could sing? I actually really liked the soundtrack. I mostly liked the Igbo part of it… the English part wasn’t that amazing
