Passion Lady 1-4
-Story: [2 out of 5] It was literally a struggle to finish this movie as soon as I got to part 3. I was constantly trying to find out how many minutes until the end. Alright the story was ok! It wasn’t a tad bit captivating. In fact part 1 and 2 try to hold my attention self. To state it simply, it took me 3 days to watch this movie. The story is a bit unrealistic at some parts. Take for instance Mike Ezuruonye’s flash back scene. How do you meet a babe on the street, today. Drive her to her home, today. Then say, “I want to ride you”, today. Then go inside her house and start ‘riding’ her, today (w/o a CD o). And then her sister walks in on both of you, today. Then you start to flirt with her sister right there and then in front of the other one, today. And the other one still continues to ‘ride’ you, today kwa. Choi! Realistic much?
-Originality: [2 out of 5] The part 3 and 4 is a bit reminiscent of the movie ‘Bride’s War’ but only in its elements, not too much. Regardless of that, it can claim originality
-Predictability: [3 out of 5] Not an important factor really but not too predictable.
-Directing/Editing: [1 out of 5] #HoustonWeHaveAProblem alright first of all. From part 2 to part 3, Jackie Appiah’s character suddenly changes name from Nneka to Anita. All I have to say to that is ???. Then after ***SPOILER ALERT*** Jackie and Emeka gett married, no one mentions Emeka’s daughter anymore. I mean obviously he did not let her wayward mother go away with her after the divorce, so??? What happened to the kid??? And finally, in the final scenes they show 3 months after the baby is born and then not only is the baby significantly enourmous for a child of that age, Jackie Appiah, is also trying to feed the child porridge? I’m like, “have you gone mad?” Shey you wan burn am. This is the kind of ish they should call C.P.S for.
-Acting quality: [1 out of 5] For God’s sake, where on earth did they get the cast of this movie from? No, I’m just kidding. But on a serious note, the only people who could actually act in this movie were Mike, Tonto and Jackie. Speaking of Mike though, it’s about time someone offered him a serious script jo, all these nonsense excuses for movies that he is acting these days is becoming beyond disappointing.
-Setting and Costume: [2 out of 5] Emeka Ike in a pink suit? I take it that the person responsible for this outfit also did Chidi Mokeme’s outfits. (Enough said). Uchenna Nnanna’s appearance is a bit… dare I say… awkward. I mean her skin is one color and her face is another color (Don’t get me wrong o… I am not jumping into the conclusion that she [cough cough] bleaches, but you know what they say, if it acts like a duck and looks like a duck…) I’m obviously not basing costumes off Uchenna Nnanna’s personal preferences lol, it was simply a side note.
-Video and Audio Quality [3 out of 5] On point.
-Soundtrack [2 out of 5] My first impression of this movie, other than the fact I was about to subject myself to more than 2 hours of pain in the name of Emeka Ike’s acting, was the village like soundtrack. I mean, just as no sane man would hire a french speaking native to sing the soundtrack to an Igbo film, no sane man should allow a typical igbo man to sing the lyrics fro a westernized modern day city set film. Honestly, Nigerian movie soundtracks, sometimes have great lyrics, sometimes have great tunes and then we get this guy singing whose voice might be good but he can not enunciate the words properly and then he comes off sounding like a F.o.B from Nnewi (F.o.B – Fresh off the boat)
I recently watched the first part and ive looked all over the web for the name of the designer who did Appiahs wardrobe for the film, specifically these two tshirts she wore, first on a restaurant date with Ezuruonye, green with a big African print fabric stiched on as a collar. And secong tshirt, scene she packs and leaves Ezuruonye, blue with same type print fabric stitched over shoulder…i love them. Want to find the designer…any clues?
The costumes for this movie were done by Ogoo Okechi so I’d presume since the name is feminine and any standout item of clothing on a female act would probably have been done by her.
