The movie Spellbound has four parts, the first two parts are called spellbound and the last two parts are called Firebrand. You can watch one two-part part without needing to watch the other but I guess for a complete feel you should watch both
Morris Sesay
-Story: [2 out of 5] To the question, “is the story of this movie good?” The answer would have to be, Yes! However, the story was not that intriguing.
-Originality: [0 out of 5] Well, this movie had a striking resemblance to the Emem Isong and Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen movie, “Girls in the Hood” from years ago. That movie had the same girl-sleeps-with-man-and-comes-to-office-to-realize-he’s-her-boss story with some minor adjustments. That story also starred Uche Jombo and Monalisa Chinda alongside Bob Manuel Udokwu, Jide Kosoko, Rita Dominic, Kate Henshaw, Ngozi Ezeonu amongst many others. In my opinion, I think Girls in the Hood was a more interesting movie. And there was nothing original about the sequel either
-Predictability: [0 out of 5] Along with a sappy/corny loves story comes predictability, it’s like skin and hair, you can’t have one without the other (Well at least not naturally). Entirely predictable.
-Directing/Editing: [1 out of 5] Good. However, I believe that the sex scene was not necessary. Nse and Des’ could have made to kiss each other and we could have skipped scenes or they could have entered the room and closed the door and then we could skip scenes. Why do we have to watch them have sex? I was not exactly in love with the dialogues in this movie either. The beginning of this movie can best be described as corny, obnoxious and annoying! What happened at the end with Joseph Benjamin, Chioma and Monalisa was never re-addressed. In many parts of the movie, you can hear people’s voices in the background especially Desmond’s voice saying “Who be that?”, during a scene. I do have to commend the movie makers on a few things. First of all for finding a baby of the right age for Chioma and Joseph. Normally, Nollywood movies would say ‘three years later’ and produce a 10 year old boy, and I’m sitting here like “…huh? Seriously! How dumb do you think I am?” so kudos. Secondly, I want to say kudos for the Monalisa and Ngozi pairing. Light skin with light skin. Not like the instances when Olu Jacobs and Rita Edochie come together to produce Ramsey Noah “…????” And finally I have one more query which was that nobody indicated the time lapse between Chioma being free from jail and her becoming a lawyer with like a THREE YEARS LATER!!! or something.
-Acting Quality: [2 out of 5] I have plenty plenty complaints but lemme start softly. Who is Morris Sesay? (that was an innocent question). I don’t know who he is. I don’t know where he crept up from… eff it, I don’t know his claim to fame but the reality of the situation is that the next time I see a movie starring Morris Sesay I would NOT be watching that movie. I understand that you are producing it but who said you have to act in it too? In the beginning of the movie, when I was blissfully ignorant of his existence, I wondered “who is that teenager they paired Nse with in the name of ‘fiancee’? Who did the casting for this movie?” And with my general background with Nollywood movies I presumed that since he was a ‘nobody’ (and a nobody who couldn’t act for that matter) he would probably die in two scenes or so? But did that happen? No! They carried this guy till the end. Random wondering though… when did Desmond Elliot get fat? Hehe, alluding to the video posted on top. Joseph Benjamin is one stunning stud/bloke/he-can-get-it (jk) well don’t worry, he is not only stunning, he can also act. Was glad to see Chioma Chukwuka again. Kudos to the lady who played the role of Joseph Benjamin’s mother though, tres convincing. ALL the extras (including Morris) couldn’t act. I thought Ngozi Nwosu’s character was really annoying.
-Settings and Costumes: [3 out of 5] Good by the way I did recognise that the office was the same one that belonged to Genevieve in BURSTING OUT! The one problem I did have was with the girls in the prison with Chioma. Both of them are supposed to have been in jail way longer than Chioma, yet for some reason they both have fresh braids as in newly plaited ghana braids with xpressions. Abeg jo! Who are you kidding?
-Video and Audio Quality [3 out of 5] Good.
-Soundtrack [3 out of 5] Bernie Anti is the genius of Ghana and Slam is the genius of Naija. Good soundtrack
I love the way u do the reviews, very unbiased. i just might start liking naija movies cos of u o.
***choir sings Hallelujah chorus!***
Amen o lmao… don’t worry, ’tis only a matter of time. We must convert you by fire by force lol.
We’ll just have to show you the right ones to watch so that you don’t backslide after you’ve been converted lmao
***see how I’m talking about conversion as if Nollywood is a religion lol***
The summary sounds good but I don’t know about recycling stories sha…
