Queen’s Desire
Mike Ezuruonye, Kalsum Sinare, Martha Ankomah, Cha-Cha Eke, Browny Igboegwu
Kelvin (Mike Ezuruonye), has just returned from New York for two reasons. The first being that his girlfriend, Sarah (Martha Ankomah), wants to see her widowed mother and secondly, because his mother, the queen (Kalsum Sinare), has summoned him for the first time after his father’s death 3 years ago. Years ago, he swore never to step foot into the palace again after what his father did. Upon return he notices that everything has changed. The atmosphere is different. What is responsible for this change? His mother has become more conservative and suspicious of everything, she leaves only a pet snake as her companion and only permits one help, Lisa (Cha-Cha Eke), to remain in the palace. What is going on in the kingdom? In the palace? With the queen? Why was Kelvin summoned back?
Queen’s Desire Part 1 and Part 2.

-Story: [2 out of 5] An arguably slow and confusing start but it eventually all ties together in the end.
-Originality: [2 out of 5] I do admit that the entire concept of conspiracy in the palace is nowhere near new but yet one can still appreciate the Faani approach to the matter.
-Predictability: [3 out of 5] Uhm…. not so much!
-Directing/Editing: [3 out of 5] I really give props to Austin Faani for this. I was thoroughly amazed. I mean, I remember when he had first mentioned that he was into directing, I was very doubtful cos we all know that people who switch careers half way are usually… “not so good at the second as they were at the first”. But “Queen’s desire” was a pleasant surprise. True art in the cinematography. No loose ends left untied. You can notice his attention to detail in a movie of such budget (now imagine if he was dealing with a larger budget… nsogbu ga dikwa). The camera controls were not what I’d expect of a movie from a fresher…I am a believer! (not to mention, it’s so much easier to turn believer when the movie is only 2 parts long). All in all it was a decent cinematographic work, just a couple scenes lacking here and there but asides from that… well done Faani!
-Acting quality: [3 out of 5] Mike and Chacha definitely carried the movie in my opinion. Everytime I see Kalsum Sinare nowadays, it always seems like she is over acting. Martha, like Kalsum, was overacting in many scenes and in the beginning one could detect some problems with enunciating (as is present in other actors like Tonto and Artus) but all that was irreverent to me, I was just too happy to see Martha in a ‘sensible’ role in a ‘sensible’ movie. As the cast was listed, Mike’s name came first and I was excited and then came Martha. I’m sitting here thinking “Shoot! There goes an almost good movie” but thankfully, I was proven wrong. Hallelujah somebody. Browny didn’t fit the role to me, I was definitely craving some Jim Iyke force for the character he played. All in all, at the end of the movie I was extra grateful that even though the character said that Kelvin and Sarah had just returned from NYC after 3 years, they did not attempt to fake an American accent. That would have just sent me into depression.
-Setting: [4 out of 5] Amazing! There were only a select few locations but the details… whoosh! The palace… #breathtaking.
-Costume/Make-Up: [4 out of 5] It was an absolute delight to see Martha Ankomah in clothes. I’m talking full bodied attire (no!!! I’m exaggerating, she wasn’t in any iro and buba sha). But seeing no nkiru and azuka (frontyard and backyard) definitely made the movie that much better. Chacha Eke is stunning and she was stunning in even her official palace attire. Kalsum carried the queen look with grace.
-Props and Graphics: [3 out of 5] On Point. I loved the fact that he used a Keke Napep/Rickshaw in the movie as opposed to the usual taxi. Something about it was definitely elating… I’m uncertain what exactly though
-Video Quality: [4 out of 5] Good
-Audio Quality [3 out of 5] Ok
-Soundtrack: [3 out of 5] Ok
-Musical Score: [4 out of 5] Nicely done
I was bored of the beginning of the movie. I waited for almost 50 minutes of my time for action to happen. Yes, it’s a thriller but dang do you have to wait that long to get on with it? I am still watching and I feel like a fool still sitting here watching. And what’s with the am/pm back and forth? Do you guys have to make us angry and curse you out while we watch your movies? I’m just saying. That’s all for now. Let me finish the movie for now.
lol… it all ties together in the end though. Wait it out!
I knew it would tie up at the end but it began with 50minutes of boredom. Yea, I know someone will say be patient but this one was just too biring. anyways nice movie. Azuka lost weight ooo… I no see the Bakasi at all. NR, what do you think; Do you prefer how she looked in this movie or previous movies?
I was staring at this comment of yours for the longest wondering, ‘na who come be Azuka’ and then it hit me that you were probably referring to Martha.
Chei! Tee, hats off to you biko. E di three mush biko but yes o we thank God, our darling Martha finally learned how to use clothes
That is very wrong. First you are rude to some one who visited your blog and then you obviously dont knw anything about film making. A screen writer deserves as much credit as d two u mentioned or even more.
In my opinion, it can be argued that everyone deserves as much credit as the next!
Honestly, as NR my aim is not to be rude but to attempt to review the movie as I see it. It’s only recently that I actually began to mention members of the crew and even at that only Producers and Directors are listed (any other person listed must be renowned/a household name to be listed because sometimes that encourages people to watch a movie).
I had no intention of being rude and if it came off as rude, then I do apologize. (but you’d have to concede that it was indeed an extremely warped argument)
Pls who Ȋ̝̊̅§ the writer? Don’t you think he/she should be mentioned after getting a 5/5???
Your argument is a bit one sided because video got a 5/5, I should name the camera man. Audio got a 5/5, I should name the guy holding the mic?
I don’t know about you but I think it’s a ridiculous argument(unless ofcourse you are the one who wrote the story and you want me to mention your name then you can just tell me that and what your name is and save us all the stress lol)
The two most important in a movie: Producer and Director and they have been named.
