Shakira (Face of Deceit)
Mercy Johnson, Majid Michel, Kofi Adjorlolo, Gavivina Tamakloe, Luckie Lawson, Martha Ankomah, Prince David Osei
-Story: [1 out of 5] Granted! There is an underlying story behind this movie… they have a point that they are trying to relay however they are too slow to get to the point. The first part of the movie consist of scene after scene of Majid getting drunk (drunker, drunkest). I’m thinking after the first 2 scenes, we get it, he becomes a drunkard. Can we please move the heck on? But is that what is done? Nope… they spend at least 30 minutes repeating scenes with the same motif. Now tell me… all that nudity and attempted pornography in the name of seduction… was it that necessary? Ok.. she seduces him… show me something that hints at it. Cut scene. Show them in bed. We get it! She’s sexy. He falls for her… I don’t fancy seeing Mercy J. nude honestly so… fastforward.
-Originality: [0 out of 5] Like Frank Rajah’s “Losing You“, the movie Shakira is a rip of the 2003 Bollywood movie “Jism (Body)” starring Bipasha Basu and John Abraham. The movie Jism is in itself a remake of the 1944 American movie, “Double Indemnity“.
-Predictability: [2 out of 5] If you have never seen any of the originals then yes indeed this movie might be unpredictable but if you know anything about the originals then it is pretty much a given.
-Directing/Editing: [1 out of 5] A couple problems. Number one, the movie is overly prolonged. It did not need to be that long. Many sex scenes and drunkard scenes would have been better off cut out. Not a fan of the cinematography as there were some scenes in the beginning with shaky cameras. And needless to say… the movie was stolen so (dot) (dot) (dot)
-Acting quality: [2 out of 5] Extras can’t act. Majid is an amazing actor and so is Mercy. Biola Ige should please stop torturing me by coming on screen. My opinion about Luckie Lawson is nothing new, she seems amazing until she starts speaking. Kofi Adjorlolo (aka the baba). In comparison with the bollywood version, I’d say Majid did a much better job than John Abraham ever could have (cos personally I don’t think John is much of an actor as he is a fine desi guy who looks very white).
-Setting: [3 out of 5] On point.
-Costume/Make-Up: [2 out of 5] I just wish they’d get more fabric on Mercy. The movie could have come out better without all the seduction and unveiling.
-Props and Graphics: [3 out of 5] On Point
-Video Quality: [3 out of 5] Ok
-Audio Quality [3 out of 5] Ok
-Soundtrack: [3 out of 5] Good
-Musical Score: [3 out of 5] Nicely done
