-Story: [0 out of 5] Improbable, unrealistic, na be onye (in whose house)??? To state it simply the storyline of this movie might have been different but it doesn’t seem realistic and possible. I mean the entire situation was a bit far fetched. Who impregnates their own daughter/sister’s daughter or even anyone’s daughter so that they can continue their father’s names? I know how Africans get with male children but… really?
-Originality: [4 out of 5] I’ve definitely not seen a story like this before.
-Predictability: [0 out of 5] Did I predict the end? Yes. There were not many other options for ways to end the movie anyways.
-Directing/Editing: [2 out of 5] Besides the ridiculous storyline, the only other flaw on directing/editing/props was the scene in which Halima was returning from the stream with a bucket of water on her head and she runs across the Prince on her way. As they are talking, the bucket tilts towards the camera and the viewer can see into the bucket and see that it’s empty even though all of Halima’s gestures suggest that it’s full. Operation Teach Halima how to Balance an empty bucket of water on her head should be enforced next time.
-Acting Quality: [1.5 out of 5] Extras can’t act and even some of the major acts couldn’t act. Ifunanya, who played Mike’s wife in Innocent Pain, didn’t seem at home in this role to me. There was just a lot of awkwardness in it. The boy that played her brother was not that great of an actor. All of the extras were abominable and my general dislike for Olisadebe Chike is still ever present but steadily reducing by the day. One question though. Must Jibola Dabor always play the role of an incestuous/sex starved old man?
-Settings and Costumes: [3 out of 5] Good
-Soundtrack [3 out of 5] None that I recall.
ur right!
Lol I don’t know o but I’m going to guess it has something to do with marketing. They have to put the faces that people recognize on the cover and will cause people to buy the movie
why didn’t they put Ifunanya, who played Mike’s wife in Innocent Pain on the cover , she was the main character
Lmao…my dear ure so on point jare…me I will give casting 0/10 but pls o nollywood is berrer dan bollywood cod d singin trash does not work for me
All you do is criticize nollywood movies, actors, actresses, directors, script writer, editors, sound technicians and so on. There is constructive criticisim and destructive criticisim and unfortunately you fall under the later. You claim to reinvent nollywood but all you seem to be doing is tearing down dreams, maiming careers and destroying confidence. If nollywood productions have not lived up to your standard, why dont you come down to Nigeria and do your own movie and show them how its supposed to be done.(PUT YOUR MONEY OR TALENT IF ANY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS) rather than sit your illegal immigrant backside in your 2×4 cubicle blogging rubbish and i woudl also suggest you borrow a leaf from the real film critics at nollywood film critic learn how to criticize constructively to build not destroy, Miss nollywood reinvented or shall i say nollywood destroyer. Anuofia… Ewu iberibe.. Aturu beke… bring your illegal self back home and stop hating cos its glaring you cannot get a decent job.
Dude! I would never have thought of Ewu iberibe. I use Anuofia very often but Aturu beke and Ewu iberibe are definitely getting penned down on my insult list lol.
Thanks for dropping a comment, and I do appreciate the time you took to go over this post. I was beginning to feel like people only read the introduction and never the actual body, but the fact that you read the body definitely encourages me.
If you would have taken half the amount of time it took you to construct an image of me in your head as a desperate frustrated illegal immigrant taking out her anger on the Nigerian industry and used that time to actually check some other posts of mine. Maybe your Constructive self might have realized that I only lash out at horrible movies.
Honestly, if I had seen a comment like this in the days when I just began blogging, I would have been crushed but if there’s anything I’ve learnt from fellow bloggers (Ms. Tilli, Aunty Bola of Nollywood Uncut, and Nollywood Forever) is that opinions differ and you must learn to develop a thick skin but most of all, in the words of Ms. Tilli we reviewers have to tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the unbiased truth. So Cindy, I do have a question for you. Have you seen the lamb?
Because I watched this exact movie in the midst of family and friends who were all avid Nollywood viewers and they mentioned the exact same thing.
What’s it to me if there is one blunt wooden toothpick in the midst of fine silver needles. As I always say Cindy, to each his own.
But I will advise you before you carry that haterade you’re sipping to a blog where the author is less kind, read other posts before you attempt to tanish a person. Is there one movie out of the industry that was undeniably good that I reviewed be it memories of my heart, jungle ride, sting in a tale, or adams apple? Check the reviews hun.
I give credit to whom credit is due and will always speak up to those who think Nollywood is a source of easy money.
I tear down dreams? Only the dreams of those who don’t put hard work into achieving their dreams.
I maim careers? Visit a Nigerian discussion blog someday nairaland or naijapals and tell me if they are saying anything different.
I destroy confidence? Maybe yours, but only a fool with let the words of another tear him down if he is doing the right thing.
And again, thanks for stopping by the blog and please do stop by again Cindy.
HAHAHA Are you from Nollywood Film Critic? Rubbish site, instead of you concentrating on bettering it you are here yapping.
No Missy am not from Nollywood Film Critic, i just appreciate intelligent Film Critics you know (Siskel &Ebert) i think you should revisit the site and study the way they critic or might i sugesst watching Siskel and Ebert these guys are trained professionals not bored or idle bloggers
Well am glad you mentioned Aunty Bola Nollywood Uncut, she does not tear down dreams.shes always uplifting, encouraging and one of the few people fighting and building up Nollywood. This lady left a lucrative banking job to support Nollywoods growth, visit her site again and you will see what i mean, even on Bella Naija shes fighting for Nollywood that is why Hun you cannot pick a fault with RAA movies.
“Only the dream of those who dont put hard work into achieving their dreams”, if they have notput in any hard please i ask you again come back to nigeria and open your own acting school and train them to achieve their dreams. Give back like RAA is doing. (Emem Isong)
Nairaland, Naijapals etc these are bloggers they do not call themselves Film Critics to qualify for that you need training,so darling if that is your dream put in hard work and training to achieve it or do you think it is a source for easy money? because i see you sell movies and ask for donations
Haba madam, you still dey here? I thought you would have been done with giving my blog free publicity by now, lmao. Oya we have taken your free advice ma, anything else?
I’d like to clarify some facts first since apparently you spend more time researching insults than you do researching your facts. Nairaland and Naijapals are not bloggers, they are forums. Where people, regular NIgerians, talk about their opinions. I referred you to them cos I presumed, although wrongly, that you might have at least an inkling of intelligence. I said go there and read what regular Nigerians think about the industry and come back and read what I’m saying. Tell me the difference… If you ask me I’m actually a lot kinder than these people.
Please tell me where I called myself a critic ma? I’m a Nollywood movie REVIEWER. The keyword is reviewer ma’am. Critics work with an organized and scientific method to land at the same rating that I reach through a form of coffee side chat. I’m not trying to be all scientific, I’m conversing about it. Letting you know what I think, and you let me know what you think.
Muah! Aunty Bola is not a reviewer silly, I only mentioned her because she motivates me and helps me believe that one day Nollywood has the capacity to become the giant we all know she can be. Which one concern me concern the job way she leave? See me o….
By the way, the Aunty Bola you are talking about agrees with what I am doing because I will always promote great movies and always expose shoddy productions. With the support of giants like Aunty Bola, Aunty Emem herself, Desmond Elliot and many others, tell me who is Cindy to bother me?
Bia nwanyi’a tell me, what is up with you and me coming back to Nigeria? Shey when I come you will cook eguisi for me? Say yes, and I’ll be there on the next flight lol. But you’d have to pay for my ticket though lol
I’d like to point out that you said, “give back like RAA is doing”. The keyword is back. You have to have been given something for you to GIVE BACK. Or is my logic flawed?
Selling movies? Hello, what am I supposed to do with the movie I’ve bought after I watch them. I have this and I can sell them back so why the heck not?
Prior to having this blog, I watched say one Nollywood movie in 3 weeks or something. So that is about 4 dollars a week no qualms. But since I had the blog, there have been some obviously lunatic people by your standards who agreed with the completely senseless and unreasonable bullshit I was blogging about and these people have asked me to watch some movies and review it for them so they know whether or not to watch it. And seeing that I’m an Ewu Iberibe with my Ewu Iberibe opinions that all these other people agreed with (so they must also be Ewu Iberibes too, not so?) and they asked that I display some more Ewu Iberibe opinions about movies that they are curious about, what can I do but offer my Ewu Iberibeish services?
I review the movies for these people and due to this. I’ve had an increase in the amount of movies I watch. It has gone from 1 movie every 3 weeks to about 3 movies every week. which is 9 movies in 3 weeks which is 36 dollars every 3 weeks. Which means I am spending 32 more dollars on movies than I used to. Who is paying for it? This girl. Am I complaining? No. But I do encourage people to encourage me if they are willing, besides I’m an igbo girl and (cough cough) shuo ndi igbo ad’asi mba to ego.
Lmao, the ironic thing about all this is that you are leaving this comment on a movie review that I reviewed very kindly in my opinion. I have had meaner reviews, abeg go there and show yourself jo.
By the way, this is the last of your haterade I will be sipping. Anymore comments will go unreplied to by me afterall you know what they say, “Silence is the best answer for a fool” (no be me talk am o, na so e day for Bible, well not the bible in this case sha but na so e sha dey)
Before I forget, I want to thank you for giving my blog free publicity
Lmao! but honestly one thing i want to know is how excatly is yapping at Nollywood Reinvented going to help better nollywood. are you paying her to put up with rubbish films. Please go and create your site and then come and call us so you can teach her how to how do you say…”uplift” nollywood. Is she the one that brought it down? Even if she does priase nollywood till she loose her voice isnt it still the same useless films that will still be produced.
sometimes some people just want to be heard
Lmao! NollyRE you have butchered this movies. Ehyahhhh! I too really do not look forward to returning to Nolly Wood. Its like all the recent movies are trying to hard to be different, but end up failing miserably.
i agree with you both, i miss the classics. They definitely need to start imputing the real NOLLYWOOD and not this far strectch dream of becoming like Hollywood
I agree with you as per the dwindling quality of Nollywood movies recently. But my reaction was to go back to watch the classic ones. That is pretty much what I have been doing since. I am not into Bollywood movies (watched a few), but I suppose we can learn some things from them. I have to admit I was a bit worried that you were considering moving over to one of the other “woods” … Please come back to Nollywood! Let’s hope they get their act together soon.
The rating and review you gave for this movie (especially the acting) tells me that I probably won’t watch it, sadly.
Lol, never!!! I could never leave nollywood besides bollywood is almost as crappy as nolly is. I was watching their classic movies from the 20th century (like 1995). They are having most of the same problems we are having which is embracing the western culture as though it were yours and making your movies revolve around those values.
Yeah! If I were to do it again, I probably wouldn’t watch this movie either…lol
