This is the second list in the 10-0f-10s series, the first was 10 Ultimate NOLLYWOOD Heroines of the 2010s, and this list is in order of talent.
P.S: writing this list made me realize just how few Ghanaian actresses are that popular. So this list only focuses on talent from the pool of Ghanaian actresses who have made it into the international market.
10. NADIA BUARI: From the days of Beyonce the president’s daughter to present day, Nadia Buari has gradually become a familiar name in the industry.
Why is Nadia #10?
Even though Nadia Buari’s is a familiar name and she has acted in many movies over the years, watching her act still leaves much to be desired as she is yet to learn how to emote properly. To be honest, I needed a #10
9. ZYNELL LYDIA ZUH: Say what? Who is that? Even though most are not familiar with her name, Zynell has been in many big Ghanaian movies like “Deadline” “Adams Apples” “Single Six“.
Why is Zynell #9?
Zynell is still an upcoming actress and hasn’t done much work, regardless her fluidity is evident whenever she comes on screen.
8. NAA ASHORKOR MENSAH-DOKU: Not a full time actress, Naa is undeniably a pretty face to look at and has starred in some big Ghallywood movies like “The Perfect Picture” and “Adams Apples”
Why is Naa #8?
Naa would have probably been #9 or #10 prior to the Adams Apples, but with every chapter as Kukua, Naa’s improvement as an actress was evident and undeniable.
7. EBI BRIGHT: Yet another name that most might be unfamiliar with, but if you pay close attention you’ll realize you recognize her from somewhere. Be it as the no nonsense millionaire from “Single Six”, the baby-mama from “Adams Apples” or even as the spy protector from “Somewhere in Africa“, Ebi Bright is definitely making her mark in the industry one step at a time.
Why is Ebi #7?
Ebi undoubtedly has fire as an actress, however, Ebi has a persona of an ‘action lady’ on screen and even when she’s not playing an action lady role you still get the same vibe from her. So when Ebi can play a role where she is mellow and calm, then maybe she’d move up the list
6. ROSELYN NGISSAH: Most still don’t know her name but can recognize the face as Jennifer’s best friend from “Adams Apples”. The fact is, Roselyn has been on the scene much longer than Adams Apples and seems to only improve from movie to movie
Why is Roselyn #6?
However, in the couple of movies I’ve seen of Roselyn, I haven’t exxactly seen much versatility. So until we see more of Ms. Ngissah, one can’t exactly say…
5. YVONNE NELSON: If you don’t know the name then you must be living under a rock. Since her foray into acting a couple of years ago, Yvonne has been taking the world by storm. The camera loves her and she seems to pull off most of her roles in a manner that’s unforgettable
Why is Yvonne #5?
Because Yvonne does Fashionista roles. That means she gets pretty and comes in front of the camera. Don’t get me wrong she does them very well but she never does anything else. No actual acting, no diversity, no versatility… at least none that we’ve seen yet. I just went through this list of Yvonne Nelson movies at https://nollywoodreinvented.com/tag/yvonne-nelson and realized she’s acted the same role over and over again. Exempting maybe “I broke my heart” but that wasn’t exactly an impressive performance
4. JOSELYN DUMAS: Who can ignore Jennifer Adams? The incredible Ms. Dumas was first spotted by most in the Shirley Frimpong film “Scorned”, since then she’s gone on to reach incredible heights in the movie industry, and one of the biggest being her character Jennifer Adams from the Adams Apples series
Why is Joselyn #4?
I accused Ebi Bright of having too much fire, but Joselyn Dumas is also another actress with a lot of fire and who we’ve really only seen as Jennifer, the fiery sister, from “Adams Apples” (yes, she has acted other movies but most people know her as Jennifer). So why is Joselyn higher up on the list? Because even as Jennifer, Ms. Dumas was able to show a variety of emotions in different situations.
3. JACKIE APPIAH: From Beyonce the president’s daughter, to whatever-the-last-movie-you-saw-her-in-was, Jackie Appiah is definitely one of the most popular faces of the Ghanaian industry.
Why is Jackie #3?
It’s almost a very controversial topic to talk about Jackie’s talent because it seems there’s nearly an even split between those who think she can’t act and those who think she’s an amazing actress. However, I believe that Jackie can act even though she’s not always at her best. She’s performed a variety of roles, and done most flawlessly so I can’t deny her prowess as an actress.
2. LYDIA FORSON: From her beginning in Scorned, Lydia has done nothing short of commanding the screen whenever she’s behind it. An impeccable actress and an impressive talent, the sky is only the beginning for Lydia Forson.
Why is Lydia #2?
Why is Lydia not #1 is the question? I had a very long struggle with myself, is Lydia #1 or is Yvonne #1 and the truth is I’ve seen more of Yvonne to know what Yvonne is capable of but as regards Lydia, I haven’t seen much. Others might have, but they’ve also probably seen more of Yvonne Okoro. And from what I’ve seen of Lydia, one cannot deny that Lydia is an impeccable actress with great command of the screen. But one needs to see her in other roles before one can say talent-wise that Lydia is the absolute best
1. YVONNE OKORO: A couple years ago who would have guessed that Yvonne would ever be on a list ahead of Jackie or Nadia? But it happened because as the years went by Yvonne seized every opportunity to reaffirm her talent.
Why is Yvonne #1?
When looking at Ghanaian actresses with the wider pool of variety in role choices, Yvonne definitely comes out on top. You can fault some of her movie choices but you can’t fault her acting, Yvonne is an amazing actress and seeing her on the cast list for any movie just adds a certain appeal to that film.
Do you agree? How would YOU order them?

Seeing Yvonne Nelson just made me remember this really hilarious interview of a white guy that was dragged into a Ghanaian/Nigerian movie starring her, he said he couldn’t stand her “prima donna” in his own words “She was such a prima donna. You know, clicking her fingers for people to bring her stuff—I couldn’t stand it”, In fact, here is the link to the full interview http://www.vice.com/read/i-was-an-accidental-nollywood-film-star-festival-of-love, please read it and laugh and shake your head as I did.
But Rama brew should have been on this list cause I am yet to see an older Ghanaian female actress which made me glued to the screen. remember the first movie in Ghana that we Nigerian know before Beyoncé president daughter was Divine Love.
i agree Yvonne okoro is the best actress i have seen. B
Yvonne Okoro is definitely my number one! So natural and yes she has grown as an actress! Nadia ummm(she needs to go bak to d drawn board of acting) lydia Forson(omg) good too! Though I know just half of those on ur list, dy are ok with the exception of Nadia ofcourse but then who would we have kept there?
Exactly, Nadia is more like a placeholder. Although someone did mention that I left out Ama K. Abebrese, hopefully sometime soon I’ll get around to editing this list and including her
