As I keep mentioning, my sister and I are always on the lookout for runs girls’ movies and I have pinned down why. That is the only time the actresses have a natural camaraderie, are allowed to let loose and just joke with their colleagues rather than maintaining a character. In other films such moments are few and far between and in any runs girls’ movie regardless of quality there is always a strong core of actresses just yarning and getting on.
This was one long long long plot, and it isn’t anything new in any shape or form. But sometimes there is no way a film can be original. Right from Domitila there isn’t going to be any change. What I did like was that the ending wasn’t rushed and that there was a lot of time to set it up. However I do have the query the need to have six parts because it meant that they spent too much time on stupid things and one does get impatient. Although to its credit the whole seduction of the innocent was done really well and really believably plus characters were really well developed. However on the other hand the moral was a bit sketchy, I like how the characters downfall happened as a result of their own individual actions rather than something something rituals but in making Nuella’s character get off scot-free was a bit of an oversell and she had the guts to cast judgement on the other characters. It boiled down to if your parents have money then it is okay for you to be implicit in a crime.
The acting was top notch; though I do wonder why Funke Akindele takes these roles when she obviously has great acting calibre. In fact most of the actors were wasted on this film including Peter Edochie and Joyce Kālu. Nevertheless I cannot think of one wooden act or extra.
The special effects were the usual fare; there was nothing ground-breaking about it. The costuming on the other hand was interesting… not good but interesting.
In conclusion, this is a long saga that needs time and attention but once you start curiosity does compel you to finish it. Would I recommend it? It does set itself apart from other those small runs movies in acting talent and plot but not by much.
