The camaraderie on set and the different version of the same
Video quality was poor in the first few minutes
The most striking thing about this movie is not the storyline (which manages originality), it’s not the performances (which manage to be captivating), nor is it the production quality (which is clearly coordinated) it is the atmosphere it creates about the characters within it. The gem of the movie is the sense of camaraderie between the characters especially those that work at our protagonist’s law firm.
But lest we digress, on to the movie.
Stranger in my bed is a different take on your run of the mill infidelity story. It follows a successful and married divorce lawyer who takes on a case in her firm for a highly influential man. This man, played by Jide Kosoko, is convinced that his younger wife, played by Moyo Lawal, is cheating on him (I comment my reserve). After a few weeks of investigation nothing turns up until the associates give it a deeper look and find way more than they expected to have.
It doesn’t try to be any sort of Sherlock Holmes but it is Sherlock Holmes enough to the extent where it is sweet and to the point. However, this sweetness and directness also manages to not turn into a weakness for when the storyline is supposed to turn serious. Armed with the acting prowess of Mary Remmy, the movie achieves this feat at that moment effortlessly.
Seun Akindele and Jide Kosoko alongside Moyo Lawal do a good job bringing their characters to life on screen and then there’s Bobby Obodo. One cannot still tell where Obodo’s skill level is as this role doesn’t really give much opportunity for that, however, one thing he does execute perfectly is being a part of the team and fostering that air that the movie creates – the happy-go-lucky air in the law firm.
As far as the story goes it is not anything revolutionary but as earlier mentioned, it will be remembered because of the feelings it creates and not so much because of its impeccably original storyline or out of this world, exceptional performances. Having said all that, I would like to mention that I would be first in line to binge on a tv series based on this divorce associates setting with the exact same cast and director and the exact same feeling between the actors.
