I’m just saying that at this point we’ve done enough of these movies that we should be able to make them a bit more convincing.
In Mr. Not So Perfect, a career con-man latches on to his next victim, played by Yvonne Jegede, and this is to be the eja nla (big fish) that finances him and his partner’s retirement. However, somewhere along the line, their perfected script is switched up as different confounding variables continue to be added to the equation at every step.
This movie could have been well on its way to creating a ‘hitch‘ kind of feeling where you have an all knowing Casanova with a way with the ladies, and a fire-woman who will not be easily brought down. However apparently those involved in making the movie were content with making an ‘okay’ movie and were not too interested in anything beyond that. From the performances to the directing, to the storyline and everything else in between, this movie is the embodiment of just okay. It never goes past that and by the time the end comes around you find yourself asking “is that all?”
The guys don’t even try and the story doesn’t even attempt to create any atmosphere. At least build up the characters of the con-men, maybe show us their research process, show us how they select their next victim, I mean these guys don’t even have the common sense to move from city to city while conducting their activities. You mean to tell me you have been doing this for 10 years and you have been staying in the same city? How big do you think this city is though that one of your previous victims won’t find you? And let’s not get into the false advertising that went on here. Why does the cast list include Frederick Leonard when you only use his voice as a voice-over in the first few minutes?
I hate to ruin the movie for you (if you couldn’t already predict the end from the beginning) but this might have been a better storyline if the guys got away with it. It is just too formulaic and never goes from checking off plot points to actually becoming an immersive experience.
