This movie is the perfect antithesis to “A Night with the King“. It is everything that movie wasn’t, coherent, interesting and novel. It does the evil Queen thing right and more. These people knew what they were doing and they did it well. They knew exactly how to be funny, well placed gags and very tight camera work. I was impressed.
The plot was quite original. The characters were developed and showed development as well. They were relatable but also very interesting to watch. It was predictable in that you know these types of people in life and you know how they would act in a given situation. It wove different layers into the story first going into the King’s home dilemma, the impact of oil found in the community as well as the challenges for the throne. It was really really liked clever how they intertwined and related to each other sometimes causing the other. The scenes weren’t too long, they didn’t linger and it was quite excellently paced. There were glitches of course, the princesses made plans to solve a certain issue but when the issue was resolved it wasn’t clear how they had achieved it. To me, there needs to be a clear case of cause-and-effect and that just wasn’t present.
The acting was superb, I can’t think of one face, or expression out of line. I have to give high praise to Mercy Johnson here, despite my natural bias towards her regardless of character I really wanted to slap her character here. Or pinch her then deny it in some kind of passive aggressive warfare. Cha Cha Eke was also quite good, funny and eloquent with the words. Angela Okorie was great.Overall the acting quality was high which further served to immerse you in the movie.
As I said earlier, the filmmakers couldn’t help but show great skill and expertise. They knew exactly what to do to elicit the laughs and they got me at every turn really respect that in both Nollywood and Hollywood. The cinematography was flawless and the use of framing was excellent. I have no idea what it is called, but they put great effort into detailing the backgrounds and in some scenes watching both the background and the foreground was equally important. The wardrobe on the other hand was okay but I felt that in such high quality it really needed to step up.
In conclusion I will even beg you to see the film. It’s funny, witty and entertaining. What more do you want? By the way I am having mad respect for NollywoodPicturesTv, I haven’t watched a bad film from them in a while so they have obviously become more discerning.
