Incoherent storyline
The runtime of this movie is approximately 100(1.5hrs) minutes give or take, but somehow the movie managed to feel like the runtime was 500 minutes (8 hours).
The Green Eyed is the story of a politician/business-man Kalu Ikeagwu and his wife as they go through trials, and how they face and overcome them. To be quite honest that is the best synopsis I can come up with because even at the 100th minute of this movie, I still couldn’t tell you exactly what the movie was about. Even after finishing this movie, I am still unsure of who the protagonist was. Which family is the focus? Nse’s? or Kalu’s? And what is the purpose of all the other things that were going on in this movie?
The movie starts off with Nse’s character, who is apparently a philandering political aspirant, getting kicked out of her marital home by her husband, played by Blossom Chukwujekwu. In the next scene you see Nse’s character with a host of ladies and someone called “madam” complaining of her plight. A few scenes later we see Blossom frolicking with a younger girl played by Tamara Eteimo. I’m sorry dear, how did you move on from your wife so quickly if you weren’t also cheating? Mhh hmm…
Then it’s off to the story of the perfect couple – played by Kalu Ikeagwu and Endy O. Abanokhua. This couple was a bit difficult to understand. At first there was the semblance that Endy, who played Kalu’s wife, looked too old for the role but somewhere along the line Kalu began to appear older and she no longer looked awkward by his side. Then there’s also the conflict that arises in their relationship. The situation surrounding the blackmail was not set up well enough in the story for the audience to be invested in it or for the audience to even understand it.
The movie did, however, have strong performances from Nse, Kalu, Blossom and Tamara. From the new actors the performances were a hit and miss, occasionally it was done well enough and other times it was a struggle.
Finding the motivation to carry on watching this movie is pretty much the definition of a struggle. Between the ever-faltering audio and video as well as the incoherence of the storyline, it’s hard to imagine why anyone would willingly sit through this.
i gave it one because i couldn’t do a zero on it. Like you stated, it was very incoherent, the whole movie was a wtf moment.
