Still on our #2016YearInReview posts and following the trend from the last post with the numbers, in this post we are looking at the actresses.
This post will be looking at the Top 5 Biggest Nollywood Actresses of 2016. To curate this list we considered the actresses who were involved in the “biggest” movies of the year.
Disclaimer! THIS LIST IS NOT OUR TALENT LIST. Instead this list is based exclusively on their market (Chigul voice) in 2016.
5) Kemi ‘Lala’ Akindoju
Even though this list is completely based on the numbers (and she definitely does qualify in that category too), I am elated that Kemi makes the list because you can see how hard she works in her body of work. She also runs a production company that does a lot of stage plays (we’ll go into more on the role of stage plays in 2016 in upcoming #2016YearInReview articles). Back to the numbers, Kemi earns her place in this list for her involvement in two big movies from the year 2016: The CEO and Okafor’s Law
4) Adesua Etomi
It has been a treat watching this young lady grow in the industry. She has come very far from her Knocking on Heaven’s Door days to now becoming a familiar household name. She had an amazing year in film and makes this list for her performances in two big movies of the year: The Arbitration and The Wedding Party
3) Omoni Oboli
Can we go ahead and call her queen money maker of Nollywood. Even without content (and I am not making any declarations because I haven’t seen the movies) it seems she can make any movie a blockbuster. Omoni Oboli has had an amazing year in press but she is #3 on our list for her involvement and production of Wives on Strike and Okafor’s Law, as well as her involvement in “Fifty”.
2) Somkele Iyamah-Idhalama
This is another one that I am overly elated to be able to mention. Somkele has been in the background for a while now but Jesus say na dis year she go blow, and blow she did. Somkele is #2 on our list for her involvement in 3 of the biggest movies this year: 93 Days, The Arbitration and The Wedding Party
1) Ireti Doyle
Because talent is ageless and knows no era. When it comes down to the numbers, Ireti was in three of the biggest movies of the year: Arbitration, Fifty and The Wedding Party.
