This one caught my eye because I think it’s time for Nollywood to resume doing those secondary school films. So there I am waiting to be nostalgic and remember my not-so-long ago experiences as a student but instead the film starts with Angela Okorie and Ruth Kadiri, and that spoilt it for me at once. After a while, I grew bored of it and went along my business and it was only on urging of my friend that I returned to it. And she was right, after like twenty minutes of boring it picked up and held my attention.
The plot was fantastic as are most of Ruth Kadiri’s. It has intrigue, love, juju, everything. There were so many storylines but they fitted in seamlessly, were interesting and necessary to the overall plot. But I have noticed this thing she does, where the first couple of scenes are boring but then it picks up.Infact I can always tell when she has written the script because at a certain point I want to turn off but then my perseverance is always paid off with an exciting story. The characters are relatable, likeable and understandable even the evil ones, it was original and unpredictable. This four parter needed to be longer, I needed to explore their worlds and the things that happened off screen .There were one or two unanswered questions though but you could come up with your own answers.
Can someone tell me where they found the actor that played Calvin (abi Kelvin), because that boy is fine. His acting needed work, and he needs to be on screen more wink wink however let’s all hope he doesn’t go the Frank Artus. Angela Okorie was great in this role and she showed confidence in it (I find sometimes that she doesn’t seem confident in a role) and range-so much range. Notable was Sylvia Edem as Fabulous, whose blush was wearing her, I would really like to see more of her as well as the character itself. The extras were alright except Calvin’s friend, he needed to sort out the accent it was agony watching him.
The audio keep cutting out at times, not the speaking parts but there were parts where there was complete silence and it bothered me a lot. The soundtrack was nice, I really like some of the songs.
In conclusion, watch if you need something thrilling but have a lot of patience to watch the set up parts. I have learnt to stop judging Nigerian films by their covers sha, sometimes clicking on some random one on YouTube yields great results.
Ehen before I forget, why was she even fidgeting in the final part of the film when that boy was asking her about her car? Hmm teacher don fall for student, if na Uni maybe but Secondary School, haba let it not be heard outside taaaaa…
All I have to write here after seeing this movie is that I really do hope Nigerian female staffs aren’t as scantily clad claiming to be so called teachers in Schools these days? How won’t a student be shamelessly chasing after you in such outfits? Mtcheew abaya, olodo rapata teacher! And that yeye boy kelvin, Calvin ‘wareva’ his name is lacks serious home training, im mama hear say im love teacher and she no twist that mouth. If this film is portraying students these days and child rearing or rather the lack of it then there is big trouble in fact “fire on the mountain” as our Asa sang for the future generation.
