This is the true definition of an epic movie. Thrilling and suspension, this movie will keep you on the edge of your seat and hooked until the end. It plays its secrets to the chest and doesn’t allow you to find them out until it wants. It is not predictable and will keep you guessing.
As mentioned above the plot is intricate and carefully planned. It is very suspenseful and interesting. It is novel, original and unpredictable. Pacing could have been better and some details should have been made clearer but this doesn’t detract from the enjoyment of the film. Good use of flashbacks and storytelling. It was like a mystery that you are watching to solve so that is very engaging. But there were off the cuff scenes including an uncomfortably frank long embalming scene.
Nuella Njubigboh was very good here, convincing and pleasing to watch. It was all a haze of actors and actresses each playing their part perfectly including Michael Godson-who has recently come to my attention as a rising star- and of course Clem Ohamazie. There were a few duds here and there, more than usual but it was not as bad as it could be.
The special effects had me gasping; it was very realistic and ambitious, miles apart from the usual technical skills seen. It was used sparingly, not overzealously while at times it looked very fake they didn’t use enough times for it to be annoying. On the other hand, as if to make up for the amazing special effects, the props and costume were appalling , it looked both tacky, cheap and amateurish. Makeup and physical effects were even worse, it was cringe worthy. Editing was a mess, in a glaring mess that almost made me change it; the screen cap was meant to say a completely different thing entirely-80s instead of early eighteenth century. It is such a let down from the overall movie. Nevertheless the location was brilliant ,very original and unquestionably detail oriented.
In conclusion, I would definitely recommend this; it nails story and effects well. It just has low production values and a really bad makeup and effects department. Guess where the money went?
