-Story: [2 out of 5] The general storyline is extremely amusing and highly entertaining (especially the scenes with Artus) but in most scenes (i.e most of the scenes with Beverly) the movie took a turn for the worse (i.e Boring). My sincere advise to you is to only watch the sequel (Dying Rose), don’t watch all four parts.
-Originality: [2 out of 5] Some bits were original but some were not.
-Predictability: [2 out of 5] Not very predictable
-Directing/Editing: [1 out of 5] In as much as a huge percentage of the acting in this movie was naturally horrible. One can’t help but place a bit of the blame on the directors/editors/scriptwriters. I blame the editor for not cutting out the million and one gbagaun scenes by Solomon Akiyesi’s female friend. I blame the casting director for casting her in the first place. I mean, is this the best you could find from your audition?
At a certain scene, Beverly is cooking some stew/soup for Solomon (don’t blame me for not knowing because in that single act it was called both a stew and a soup countless of times, even though I am very sure there’s a difference between stew and soup) and she realizes that she forgot to buy bread. Her friend asks her what she needs bread for and she says that Solomon can not eat anything without bread. Let me borrow a line from Nollywood Forever and say “Say What?” What do you mean he can’t eat anything without bread? So spaghetti and sauce (+bread), Fried rice (+bread) and even amala and ewedu (+ bread).
And finally, I blame the editor for misspelling Mercy Johnson’s name in the beginning. It’s Mercy Johnson not Mercy Jonson. Typo? I care not
-Acting Quality: [1 out of 5] The acting in this movie was… oomf. Is that a good thing? No. Is that a bad thing? No. There were a lot of stand out performances like Artus Frank who I believe is an awesome actor and could be even better if he learnt to enunciate or to speak English well. Solomon Akiyesi, whom you may remember as the husband of Omotola in Friendly Scorpion, seems to be in all of the movies all of a sudden. However, in his case it was not at all bad. He seems to be getting stronger per movie but it’s not like I will purposely watch a movie because I saw him on the cover. Not yet. Mike, Mercy and Jibola were amazing as usual. I was awfully delighted to see Jibola in a movie where he wasn’t incestuous. Now as per everyone else, let’s just say they sucked. Beverly Naya (on left) seems to be making a lot of advances in her career of late, and we congratulate her. She is all over the red carpet and is even set to be in the yet to be released Emem Isong production “A Weekend Getaway” alongside the likes of Genevieve Nnaji, Ramsey Noah, Monalisa Chinda, Ini Edo and many others. You may remember her from Home in Exile in which she played a role alongside Desmond Elliot. Well the thing is, I personally don’t think she can act. At some points (let’s say 15% of the movie) the viewer connects with her acting but the remaining times. It seems as though she is reciting the script. It doesn’t feel natural.
Take for instance a scene in which she is running away from her ex, Solomon, and he is running after her, screaming “Sandra!!! Sandra!!!”. Yet she keeps running away. So she is running and running with her purse in her hand. Then all of a sudden, I swear this girl systematically places the bag on the ground mid-run. I suppose the scene is supposed to be that the bag fell off and she has to stop running but that wasn’t what I saw. I actually had to rewind five times to make sure I saw what I saw.
Everybody else in the movie can’t act either.
-Settings and Costumes: [3 out of 5] good
-Soundtrack [0 out of 5] I have no words to describe the horrid soundtrack
‘There were a lot of stand out performances like Artus Frank who I believe is an awesome actor and could be even better if he learnt to enunciate or to speak English well.’ <--- Just wanted to bring this quote out!! You actually said that and I agree. By the way, 'learnt' is not part of the English language. Thought you would like to know since you are such a great Speaker of English critic!! *smooches and have a great day* ☺
On the contrary, ‘learnt’ is in fact part of the English Language, British English. Google it!
In nollywood, and the acting world entirely,i realised, those who cant act are given more roles, its simply who sleeps with the producer more, and directors, who gives them more more or who is closer, its no longer being profesional, look at beverly naya,we all know she is not a good actress,is it biola ige girl, and the ejine, horrible actresses,we the viewers are not fools, its so irritating when we watch horrible actresses on screen and the good ones arent seen more, basically i stoped regarding nigerian movies, bacause i learnt from people ,its all about who they sleep with,or who gives the producers money,Solomon Akiyesi,a great actor i must say.
Ooooh! PREACH!!! They definitely have to be sleeping with somebody cos… i mean even they must have an idea as to how bad of an actor they really are… you just took the examples right out of my mouth.
How these talentless creatures are getting farther ahead (way faster) than people who can actually act beats me in entirety… but wetin man go do. We chop what we are given, so we only have what Nollywood producers give to us unfortunately.
We thank God for the talented few who made it and pray that others get through as well
